not all 'upgrades' are better though..look at dvd's...ine scratch and they're screwed, vhs's will always last longer....

why did incubus choose ben kenny over someone who is more like dirk?

why did james brown give bootsy the boot?

personally i see no use for the technique, same as 7+ string basses or digital camera's in phones...but this is my opinon and deals for what i use or want to use...

First, you have fun with the VCR. Rewinding and Fast Forwarding is for the birds.

Second, I would imagine that Dirk quit/left because the band had done a complete 180 from their original sound.

Third, Bootsy quit because he didn't like wearing a three piece suit everytime he played.

It's not cheating, music isn't a test or competition. Find something unique and make it yours.

A few example of revolutionary technique

Wooten - Double Thumping, Double Plucking, and argueably the Open Hammer Pluck
Entwistle - The Percussive fingerstyle
Mike Dimin - Double Stops and Chords
Larry Graham - Slapping

To tell somebody not to try something different is the same as doing an injustice to them. If the technique works than why not, if he later grows out of it, fine. No reason not to try something different.

And again, just because don't see a use for it, doesn't mean it has no use. You should listen to the song in JT's sig, it will give you an idea of how the range of a 7 can used; combined with midi the possibilities are endless.

well bootsy was actually booted because james couldnt control him, and it wasnt why did dirk leave.....

and he can do for all he likes doesn affect me, but i asked why else are you doing it, because nick originally said "i copied it because it looked cool", was there any other reason to do it besides looking cool?...nd he isnt doing something unique by copying fieldy...

and nick i think that just confirms a bit of lazyness and lack of commitment, you cant just give up on trying to do something because you think you may never be able to do it, hell, ive been working on my slapping and tapping for about 3 hours each day for almost 12 months now, its nowhere near where i would like it to be just yet but hey, ive moved alot further than where i was 12 months ago.....12 months ago i thought id never be able to play stu hamms country music in its entirety, still cant do the tapping part but im getting there, i also thought id never be able to flamenco strum, but determination and practice got me there

and abark, i know the whole deal but none of you seem to understand that i see no use of them for ME, WHAT I WANT TO DO, im not saying that noone else can use em..go for it...im happy doing what i do.....

and might i add some more "revolutionary techniques"
billy sheehan and stu hamm - polyphonic tapping
i'd also add some of stuart hamms slapping technique as a bit revolutionary, with roll popping and his left hand dead slapping..

and with VCR's...ill bet that my copy of jimi hendrix live in monterey will last longer than any dvd you have......its already lasted 20 years

Those are both correct.

I disagree with the VCRs though.

(Wouldn't KiNg FiElDy and the Mark Hoppuses be an amusing band name?)

why not just slap normally?...personally i think feildy sounds like a dog turd thats been trampled by an elephant stampede :D

but seriously...why not slap normally? i mean, trying to be cool by doing the fieldy thing just aint worth it

a bit of a cheaters way, but im serious, why not just slap normally? its a valid question, is there any other reason besides trying to look cool, as nick said? or is that the remise of trying it

you're only cheating yourself......personally im focusing to get a slap style the mix of stuart hamm and vail johnson..theres nothing like the real thing
