I think after 45 years of bass playing and owning more gear than I can remember,I have come to this conclusion. I can put a speaker in a cardboard box,and power it with my Heathkit power amp(yes I built it when I was 16),and get a good sound. All the bass amps I currently own do the job well for me. Some just cost more to do that job.

I heartily agree with your observation based on your years of experience. My sentiments are the same, though I'd probably be playing through an old tube Bogen p.a. head instead of a Heathkit unit.;) I do remember wishing I could buy all the cool stuff that Heathkit had in their catalogs when I was a kid.

more proof that TB =GAS

two 1/2 years ago before I stumbled onto TB I only had a Hartke 410XL cab , GK RB800 head and a Fender BXR 100 combo......

today with help from eBay and CraigsList-

Amps:
GK 800RB
Eden WT-300

Preamps:
Art Tube Channel
Demeter HBP-1
Aguilar DB 659

Power Amps:
Carvin HD 1500
Peavey IPR 1600

and two 3 space gator rack cases

Cabinets:
2- DYI fEARful 12/6/1
1- DYI fEARful 15/6/1

and still got the Fender BXR 100 combo for home practicing

also bought and /or sold in the last two years:
Hartke 410XL
3 Eden 210XLT cabs
Ampeg B2RE/furman/Korg DT1000/Art tube MP/ four space rack case
Eden WT-330

been a busy couple of years but I'm very happy with the outcome

now playing with tube rolling in the preamps - fun stuff!!

and now wondering how a Ampeg SVPCL would fit in(more GAS!)

thnks for reading-

I have a stage rig and a practice rig, they work well.

For the live rig I am using a pre/power setup with one or two cabs depending on venue.
I am considering going with a Bass Head and one cabinet, just for less to setup/hookup/carry. If I do then I might get rid of the practice amp, for a smallish backup micro head.

The LIVE RIG = Fender P & Maestro Ray both into> Korg Pitchblack+ into> Aguilar Tone Hammer into> Crown XLS2000 poweramp into> Carvin LS1503 and or a 118 sub.

The PRACTICE RIG = Acoustic B20

Just one rig here as well (well two if you count the Fender Rumble 15 combo as a rig which I really don't), but it consists of the Peavey Tour 450 amp and the Mesa Powerhouse 6x10 cab. Simple yet oh so doom!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOOO for this thread. Been feeling guilty that somehow in recent days, I've ended up with an additional rig. But after seeing these posts, I don't feel so bad. Mine:

-- Genz Benz Streamliner 900, Genz Benz Focus 210 LT, Focus 115 LT
-- GK MB Fusion, Genz Benz 410T-XB3 (This is my home practice rig. I was supposed to sell this cabinet when I got the Focus cabs, but I can't bring myself to do it.)
-- Markbass 121P combo, 121 extension cab (This was my small gig and home practice rig. Now I guess it's just the small gig rig.)
-- Not a rig, but I also have a Roland Microcube.

Feels like one rig too many.... but what the hell.

I guess I'm a minimalist compared to some of you guys.

Heads: Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0
SWR Workingman 300
Gallien Krueger Goldline 500

Cab: Genz Benz NeoX 212T

Combo: Ampeg B-15T

I really only ever use the Genz rig, the other heads sit in the closet and take up space. The B-15 sounds great, but needs a trip to the amp doctor, and honestly weighs more than it's worth considering I've got a 54.6 lb rig that gives me twice the volume for about 30% more space in the truck. I think just the cab on the Ampeg weighs 60 lbs.

Well, here goes nothin'.

Tube Gear

-Late 60's Blueline SVT head. Needs tubes and re-bias.
-Ampeg SB-12: needs cabinet restoration
-Ampeg B-15NA; plays, needs tune-up

Solid State

-SWR Electric Blue Head
-Yamaha PB-1 Preamp
-SWR Stereo 800 power amp

Cabinets

-Circa 1975 Ampeg 810 cabinet
-Euphonic Audio VL-208 (x2)
-Bergantino HT-322

Compression

-DBX 160X compressor
-Symetrix 501 compressor

And that's all. Last Euphonic cab showed up today, and with that, there is nothing more I need or want. Or that my wife would put up with.

Now I don't feel so bad. Been thinking about thinning the herd though.

Heads:
B-42X with the killer multi-setting vibrato ala Starship Trooper
B-25B
PB300

Cabs:
V4 small 4x12
early 70's SVT 8X10 refrigerator
(2) B-25 2x15

Combo:
66 B-15N in ragged glory. NOS JAN 6SN7GT's from when they were a dime a dozen and a pair of early Svetlana 6L6GT's. It's a beautiful thing.

And for guitar:
(2) 67 Reverbojet II Golden Glow series
67 Gemini II
72 V2 Head
72/3 G-12
73 VT-40
