I Know Everybody Talks About Having Too Many Bass'! How About Bass Rigs?

I have been giving serious thought to this matter. The answer is seven. Every bass player should have seven. It is the golden rule of seven which makes life easier.

Seven basses
Seven Heads
Seven cabs
Seven combos
Seven gigs a week
One wife but...
Seven girlfriends

If we live by this simple rule life the difficult decisions will be made for us. Now, just off for a quick chat to explain it to the missus........

You sir, have uncovered the one universal Truth in life.

I have not seen any posts about having too many bass rigs. Most people have way to many bass's. After digging through my stuff in the garage I have found there are 7 complete rigs out there, not to mention my combo amp in the house. What I found:

1. Carvin Redline RL810 and Carvin BX 600 head

2. Carvin Redline RL410 and Carvin Redline 600 head

3. Carvin BR410N,Carvin BR15N and Carvin BX 500 head

4. Hartke 4x10 (Old One) and Hartke HA 2500 head

5. Behringer BA 410 and Behringer BX4500H head

6. Fender Bassman 100 Combo

7. Markbass 106HR and Markbass LM II

Wow dude, I am simultaneously impressed and envious.

I'm one of the many in the bass-rich, rig-poor category. I play through 15" cabs, I should at least swing the other direction and pick up a nice 4X10 as an alternative.

For you folks that use a different rig for home, rehearsal/practice, small gig, large gig, does your sound (that you notice) change drastically?

Yes it does, but that is by choice, otherwise I would have several of the same rigs or just one and save a lot of money.

My home practice amp is an Ampeg B4R in a rack with an Ampeg SVT IIP and a SWR greenface Grand Prix on top of a SWR 810 cab.

My gig rigs are:

a.) GK 700RB II in a rack with an Alembic F1-X pre into an SWR Goliath III

b.) GK 800RB in a rack with a SWR Grand Prix into a Goliath II

c.) SWR Baby Blue into either a 4ohm Goliath Jr II or an Eden 110 cab.

All of my rigs sound different and I use them depending on what sound I am looking for.

WOW! Once upon a time I had an SWR Cab-Collection that was Hard to beat! I had a Racked 4004 head, and a 2X10C combo, which was bassically a 4004 head made into a 2X10 combo. But I had the following Bottoms:

Big Ben (1 x 18")
Bertha (1 x 15"
Big Bertha (2 x 15")
WorkingPro 410
Henry the 8X8
Triad I (1 - 15", 1 - 10", Horn)
MeGoliath (8 x 10")

I typically ran the Combo with either the 410, or the Big Ben. But the 4004 driving the Henry the 8X8 rocked! And so did the 410 with Big Ben! Oh, did I mention I had a MeGoliath? :smug:

Now days I have 3 Rigs:

Mo' Bass Head with MeGoliath Bottom. (I have the 410 still for smaller situations tho...) Up to 900 Watts! :D

An Eden Metro Combo with an Eden D118XL bottom. 400 Watts. (This is my Home/Practice Rig/Rig of Choice)

An Eden Nemesis NC200 1-15 Combo. I can run the 118 or the 410 with the as well for a Whopping 200 Watts! Great for Ghetto-Gigs!

Well, I like Perato's 80/20 rule!

80 Basses / 20 Amps! :hiding:

I don't get the same joy out of bogarting amps that I do bogarting basses. Recently sold a couple cabs just because I wasn't using them as much. Sold a 77 B-15N for the same reason. Loved it but just didn't get used nearly as much as the 64.

I have the right number if you count the combos but don't count the PA:

1949 Gibson BR-9
1968 Acoustic 360 rig
1978 (approximately) Acoustic 320/408
1980 Acoustic 118 combo
1981 Acoustic 126 combo
1981 Acoustic 165
2013 Acoustic 360m

I "only" have two guitars, three bass guitars, and one upright. There will be three guitars once the project tele gets done, but that could be a while.

Stereo amp rig:
Two Gallien Krueger 700RB-II amplifiers
Two Mesa Powerhouse 212 cabs
----------------------------------------
Gallien Krueger 800RB head
Acoustic 106 (2X15)
(I use this for my Moog Taurus pedals)
---------------------------------------
..and I also have an old Peavey Mark III series bass combo but I need a 15" Black Widow for it and a Peavey 1810 (2X10" & 18") cab too.

Oh man... 8 full rigs. I'm crazy. I guess that matches 8 basses if you count the upright! :D

Fender 300 Pro / upgraded Kustom 118B
Mesa Buster 200 / Mesa RR 118 (JBL E155)
Ampeg SVP-BSP + QSC USA 850 / Big E 2x6's
Ampeg VT-22 (head) / Marshall 410 (vintage SVT loaded)
Ampeg B-12XTC (upgraded)
Ampeg B-15N (+extra speaker)
Carvin MB-10
Hughes & Kettner BATT / 2x 1x6's

Might end up with an SVT/810 in place of the B-15 soon too. :hyper:

So then. How'd all that get buried under other stuff in the garage??

Just let a few things go but up until recently,

1) 74 Ampeg SVT and 2 Ampeg 70's 810 cabs
2) EUPHONIC Audio iAmp 800 and 2 CXL 112's
3) 80's Ampeg SVT and a 810 classic cab
4) Genz Benz Steamliner 900 and 2 Ampeg 210av cabs
5) Eden Navigator pre and Eden WT 1000 with 2 Eden 410xlt's
6) Ampeg B2 and Ampeg Classic 4x8 and 115 cabs
7) (no longer have the head) But, GK 800rb and Musicman copy 2x15 cab. My first rig. My dad started building the cab in 1976 and finished it in 96-97' when I started playing in a band. This rig moves some major air!

Oh and an Ampeg Billy Sheehan Pre, and Yamaha PB1, just add an amp and cab....

My ear only rig now I guess would be my San Amp VT Dlx, haven't gone solo, no rig in a while now. I did forget to unmute the rig 2nd set at our last gig, whoops!

My practice rig is a Line 6 Floor Pod X3 live. I use 1 setting on it! Lol!
