Yeah I had the same RBX model but with a nice cherry wood body. Unfortunately I lost it in a poker game. Hence the SX purchase almost immediately the next day. I had my Yamaha from about 1996. Such and easy machine

Played 2 Harley Bentons in the last month after never seeing one before. Those things are HEAVY!
If you watch carefully in your cheapo search, you can still find 70s and 80s Japanese instruments, which were from the last great pre-CNC era of production guitar manufacture.
I've definitely seen plenty of MIJ Westones, Ibanez, Vantage, Fernandes, Yamaha from that era at reasonable prices. And some of the later Korean and Taiwanese instruments by the same manufacturers are even better deals.

I found the SX p-bass I had a few years ago to be too heavy also... I haven't gone (lately) for any real expensive basses and I do especially like the lower-mid-ranged ones. -Such as the short scale lightweight Mikro and Squire CV60s Mustang basses I have... -Have also been looking at the Gretsch Jr Jet and the Ibanez Mezzo lately, so you can see which price range I usually happily prowl in...
Bummer, sounds something I could have done, easy machine indeed, mine was used in countless recordings because it always worked, cut through mix and electronically was as quiet as could be. Enjoy your SX

How do you like the shorty??
I just ordered one... im thinking of turning it into some kinda baritone/bass hybrid of some sort.
I have seen a few (and bought a couple) old ibanez roadstar IIs for “cheap” prices.... i love those bodies and necks!!
Have my eye out for a Roadstar after seeing yours, they look solid don't need another bass but you know how that goes...
I played my new Ray5HH in my country band last night and I’m very impressed. Need to work on the pickup height but it sounded great. Love me a Cheeto.
The HB Shorty is different than the HB PB Shorty, and isn't offered any more. The Shorty is a back routed "Bronco" body w/P pickup, the PB Shorty is a small P clone.
I have no clue how the PB Shorty plays/sounds.
Finally got to try my cheap bass ($179 Ibanez TMB30) at rehearsal. I think we still have a little work to do as it seemed to be picking up more string "clicking" noises at band sound levels, so I guess I need to adjust the levels/angles of the pickups.
As I posted elsewhere, after a little work (fret polish, new strings, neck finish sanding, and setup), I am SUPER happy with how the bass plays, and it sounds great at living room practice levels. It makes me wonder why I spent so much on some other basses (one of which I've already sold).

Picked up a bass for cheap yesterday. 120 bones for an excellent condition 20 year old SR400. If it urns out I don't like it, I can flip it.
