I have a couple of cheap basses that are great. They include my Ibanez RB620 (ash/maple P bass but better) that cost me about $US30,my 2 T40s which were both under $US200 ea and my Ashton AB1505. The last is a hippy sandwich that is similar to the Washburn T25; cost was about $US75 at the time. Had it 20 years and it's beautifully made, much better than a lot of basses I've paid a lot more for.
As for some of the earlier comments saying more expensive basses play 1000x better than cheaper ones, equine merde.

I opened up the cavities on my KTone to add copper foil for shielding and when I removed the pups to shield in there I could not believe the size of these pickups.They're a smidge over 4" long and over an inch thick.How could one ever replace these.Thankfully they don't sound bad.
Talk about big pups.Look at the size of these monsters.i removed them to shield the cavity.Over 4" long and a bit more than an inch deep.Luckily they aren't bad sounding because how would I change them.I've never seen bigger.

Cheers. Apart from the XL2 (bought new in 86) and the BTB846v (bought new last year) none of the 21 others I have cost more than $US500 and most much less. Every one of them I'd gig and some I have.
Edit: One of my SRC6s was ordered and bought new. Took nearly 2 years from order though. Arrived late '19.

Guilty as charged. I used to have a couple of really nice American Fenders that were stolen. It really broke my heart to lose those basses so I decided just to buy "cheap Squiers" to replace them so I wouldn't feel so bad if anything happened to them.
The first was a Matt Freeman P that I had someone install a jazz bridge pickup on with a 3way switch. Second, a used VM P to put the Jamerson strings on. Then a VM Jazz which I put a hipshot kickass on (after this picture) and recently LaBella 760FLs and it sounds super funky.
They don't feel quite as good as my Americans did but the sound and the tone is almost indistinguishable; you'd have to be an expert to tell the difference. Also, I think my plan backfired b/c I'd be just as sick if anything happened to these.
And of course now I need a jazz(ish) with rounds, but would like to mix it up from Squier so I'm trying to talk myself out of a Sire V5 or a Ray4 HH or maybe an Ibanez sr500....

Bought this last week and loving it. Jackson JS 2 passive , 2 humbuckers and looks cool. what else needed?
Good setup just needs some tweaking when I put some GHS Pressure Wounds on it.
Nice neck , light small body, love the head-stock and versatile sound.
I got it for a 80's hair metal band but I see it being my main bass.

Just picked up this PJ locally, it's a 2008 SX vintage series in perfect condition (still wearring plastic on the PG) and came with a hard shell case for $100 plays great!

My $20 beauty...a Korean Whatchamacallit...no name on the headstock, 3 tuners on one side, 1 on the other, no name. Sticker on plate...she barks!
My $58 Glarry P bass, I added a Classic Vibe blocked & bound Jazz neck I had sitting around and an older Squier standard pickup set, also added cream pickup covers.
It's now wearing Fender flats and is my lightest bass to date weighing 6.4 lbs. I'll add a high mass bridge down the road to give it a little bit of weight because it is strangely light but it plays and feels amazing for such a cheaply modded budget bass.

And now with picture, it since had it's neck transplanted to a super light weight mahogany GSRM20B body in weathered black finish, has the J pickup disconnected and removed, an EMG Geezer Butler P pickup installed, wired directly to the output jack socket, which was relocated and swapped out from the stock side mounted barrel type jack socket to a regular front mounted one, installed in one of the redundant pot holes, as well as had various visual mods done :
Both are a bit neck heavy and came with substantial size necks, the Glarry's neck before the J neck swap had a baseball bat size neck and the body is made from lightweight paulownia wood.
Not sure what the SX body is made from it's heavier though and less noticeable, a wider strap helps I'm thinking a heavier bridge will help the Glarry's balance a bit, some have swapped the tuners for 'ultra lights' but they cost more than the bass, lol.

I like the Squier Affinity's and Classic Vibes. The Affinitys don't sound that good, but I think that could be cured by getting better pickups. I have 9 Squiers and another CV on order. The CV's sound good. They have Alnico pickups. The Affinitys have cheap ceramic pickups. A lot of overtones and wolf howls. I have an MIM Player P-Bass, which is really nice, but they aren't cheap in Canada. They're 999 bucks.
