I Love Children (platonically)

The illegality of gay marriage in most states.

I don't recall the article mentioning gay marriage in particular.

But the thing is, whether a gay couple has kids or not, they are just as likely to have the same issues as any normal family, they very well may have deadbeat parents. However, the kids are a million times more likely to face ridicule than children of a straight family.

And no, I do not support lynchings. mob Justice is rarely adequately just. I do, however, believe in corporal punishment for certain capital crimes.

Better watch out, if you disagree with NJL, he'll call you gay.

Gays have the same right to get married as everyone else.

I think gays should have a new word. Marriage by definition is between a man and a women. Can't change that. So how about some other word that works for everybody?

mar⋅riage

–noun 1. the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.

Bull. Words evolve constantly, in every language. There are even some words and phrases in English that have evolved so much over time that their current meaning is the opposite of their original meaning. You certainly can change the definition written in a dictionary.

Have you seen any of the news stories on it? His position is about the hypocrisy (as he sees it) to allow liberty and justice for all while refusing to let gay couples get married, or even experience the same legal rights as married straight couples.

Beyond the issue of the word "marriage," which is a divisive issue and, as far as I can see, beside the point, who really believes that gay couples shouldn't be allowed the same legal benefits that straight couples are?

And that's the problem: Civil Unions (or whatever you want to call them) don't cover the same ground as a marriage, legally. That's totally ****'d.

Saw it on The Colbert Report. Awesome. Then Colbert went on to do the text of allegiance.

"I text allegiance to the flag of the United States Of American Apparel and to the facebook for which it friends, one nation, OMG, indivizzibizzle, with Liberty and Jonas for all."
You are one funny dude. I like people who can laugh at themselves and be irreverent. Ha:D

What question is he asking? Why should I commend someone for standing up for their decision when I believe their decision sucks and/or is completely irrelevant?

No one except one substitute teacher is standing in the way of this kid not doing what he doesn't want to do. It's not exactly like standing in front of a tank in communist China armed with only a brick, or speaking out publicly against your local military dictator. There will be no life-threatening repercussions because of his valiant stand against American culture or tradition.

Tell me, what is the kid standing for, exactly? I only see that he's standing against the ideals on which our nation was founded.

Happy Thanksgiving, btw! Hope you all have a good one.

This "kid", is thinking, and analyzing. Not swallowing whole, and unquestioningly following what he's being told, like a lot of dumb rednecks do. I admire him. I was him, during the Vietnam war.

Think about the evolution of the language is that it's natural evolution. Forced evolution is not natural.

And NJL can call me gay if he likes, doesn't bother me in the least.

Then again, I am the most right wing nut-job queer on the planet, conservative to the hilt. I am fiercely proud of the traditions of the states, the Southern states in particular. When something like this goes on, it irritates me to no end. Why not crusade for the causes that haven't been completely cleared yet without starting a new one? Equal pay for races and genders, falling educational standards, rape and abuse, etc. For goodness' sake, Obama just had a huge hand in signing some paper (I hesitate to call it a bill, since I only heard of it in passing) which added homosexuality into the list of things which people can't be fired for, and can be considered hate crimes if they're victimized for stuff.

Point being, this is stupid, the kid is a hippy scumbag in the making (or worse, an attention starved balloon baby who'll end up becoming Tom Cruise-esque Scientologist).

Yea, this irritates me. A lot. I value the rights of Americans, and his freedom to disrespect our freedoms and our nation, but I don't have to like it, and I absolutely do NOT. No amount of argument will change my stance on the matter.

I have more to say, but I tend to ramble, and it strays too far into politics to be considered the safety zone, so my tirade is done.

"his freedom to disrespect our freedoms"....?? Do you play bass, or banjo?

Hmm... I was simply entertained by this entire thread, until those definitions. I work, very hard, 40+ hrs a week (including my prep work), yet don't get medical benefits. I had to get blood work done last week where I sat waiting with a room full of immigrants who I knew I was paying for to have the same work done, while being disrespected by the people working there because they spoke a different language than me (I speak english by the way). All the magazines in the waiting area were in a language other than english, and the TV was set to a non english station. I'm UNWILLINGLY paying for the care of these people (it gets taken out of my taxes - or I go to jail), and I have to pay my own way while they get more courteous care - for free. Because I work hard, and they don't. And they can. That's not liberty and justice for all. That's extortion, a complete infringement on MY rights, very controlling, and utter insanity. Sorry. I guess this kind of stuff makes me indifferent to whether gays can get married or not.

For what its worth, I don't see it as disrespect, I see it as doing what he should be doing at his age--observing, thinking, and speaking his mind. If that means he wants to get a confederate tattoo, fine with me (and, curiously enough, after traversing a large part of this country, the place with the most Flags per capita is still upstate New York: geography must not be their strong point.), and if it means that he's going to become a Quaker, that's cool too.

What right does an American have if not the right to dissent? That's where we came from, after all.

The interesting thing about the event IMO is not necessarily the viewpoint, but how the kid acted and how the sub acted. For the kid, it's awesome that he is thinking and reasoning, the sub has issues. That is what the focus is on, not his views IMO. BTW, I'm pretty sure it's a violation of freedom of speech to have a public area where disrespect to America is not tolerated. I can say America sucks all I want in school as far as I know.
