I Love Stingrays, but $7,000?

Well, one side effect - now nobody is complaining about StingRays being $2200 when they used to be $1100 back in 1992.
Unfortunately people will still complain about that.
I see many comments about the relative value of the CW bass. For me, it's not really about that. I have other basses that will always "do the job", but that's not why I'm buying this bass. I'm buying it because I appreciate Cliff and the rarity of the piece. In the same way, a Casio watch will do the job of giving me accurate time - but I like to collect Rolex. Not because I'm rich, but rather because I don't mind tying-up some money in artwork, luxury goods and a few instruments. I'm not looking for these items to appreciate in value, but hopefully hold their value as assets (and portable wealth) that I get to enjoy on a daily basis. A little bonus for me is since my MIL just passed away with dementia, I feel good knowing at least some portion of the price will help others experiencing what our family just went through.

I play a certain way - as do we all. There is nothing particularly difficult about what I do in my band. Lots of walking lines, lots of I-V, anyone can do it.
But I've let people sit in, players who are far more...talented than am I, and they just don't do it correctly.
Anyway, that Cliff sure seems like a good guy.

That's the truth Jimmy. Goes for Drummers & Rhythm players too. They have a formula that is magical, and any insertion of our own personality makes us sound like amateurs. It's harder than it seems to "under-play".
There's a reason we got to the top of their tributes, and a reason they reached out to audition our singer when Brian had to leave the last tour. They said we "do it right".

I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.
He's certainly one of the most root-heavy bassists ever, but also the bassist of one of the most iconic and successful rock bands of all time. Cliff has been 1/5 of that since the mid 70s and is still going strong. Slap the words "Rock/Rock and Roll" on any album/cd cover, and you have AC/DC. Can't say I'm surprised with this artist model, and I dig that every penny goes to a charity that supports research for how Malcolm died.
Whooooole lotta people in this thread didn't see the part about how the bass is essentially free in exchange for a $7,000 donation to Alzheimer's research.

We did a podcast Striking a Chord with Cliff, and the last 20 minutes Blair Ridings (THE MAN) talks about the level of detail he achieved over the two years he spent on this project.
Totally get it, and I used to advocate for the same as you are, but it is impossible. Most threads veer off the original topic at one point or another. It's futile to fight against it. As a mod once said to me, "where a thread goes, a thread goes."

I'd be interested in hearing your report on how this bass performs on a stage as well. My Cliff bass will end up being a home-fun bass.
I'll definitely get it out to some "special" shows..... although they are few and far between this year. I'll report for sure.
