I Love Stingrays, but $7,000?

I hate to state the obvious but isn't that exactly what we talk about here at TalkBass?

Well I'm not one for standing in the way of freedom of speech, but it gets really tiresome that when, in a world where you can find perfectly serviceable instruments of any kind at pretty much any price point, people just complain and complain when something isn't made to their liking or is priced out of their ability to buy it. None of these manufacturers need to justify what they do and charge to any of you, nobody's holding a gun to anyone's heads and forcing them to pay higher prices than they'd like to pay, and some stuff is simply not made for the common working stiff to afford.

I'm not a huge Musicman fan whatsoever, but they did nothing wrong, and it's pointless to spend page after page bellyaching about it like they did.

So? Just pass it by and ignore. Your post is bellyaching about the bellyaching. It's a public message board. Stop trying to control other people's behavior and speech. It'll set you free.

I wasn't trying to stop anyone's behavior. You made a comment, I made a comment. If you wish to complain about things you can't control, I can't help that. But I can darn sure comment on it if I feel like it. So stop trying to control MY behavior.

Can you say ‘market manipulation’? They are not rare for any scarcity of materials or know-how for making them. Terrific scam. The diamond market kind of works the same way.

I guess if you really want one it’s worth it. I’m sure it’s a wonderful bass, but I don’t really want one.

Well, clearly you don't understand what market manipulation is. Aside from that, you're just going to ignore the fact that it is an exact replica of a particular artist's bass? Surely that makes it somewhat special.

If you can't afford it, it doesn't mean that something is a ripoff. 26 made, 26 probably already sold, you won't see them on the used market, money will go to charity, so where is the grumble, grumble, grumble? If you think the price is too high, don't buy it. Oh, I forgot, talk bass.

Long ago, Ernie Ball said they would never make vintage reissues, then they invented the Classic series. Even when it was entering the market, Ball still said, he does not see sense in vintage reissues.

Long ago, Ernie Ball resisted the trend to make Artist models of basses, including that they didn't pay anyone to play their instruments. So if someone played a Musicman, you knew he had paid for it the same amount of money you would have to...
Then they started to get really innovative and offered copies of Precision basses...

I have a kind of custom made Classic for an artist (weired serial, modern battery compartment and satin finished neck), but when I asked, they refused to tell me the name of the artist. Good old times

Maybe they have to makes decisions like that, but it is the Sameness of everything and every one that makes me kind of sad.
