I made a DIY cab. It's Green.

I agree, his comments...while productive (engineer) could've been better delivered by someone from PR. Well said PEP.

Good thing they shut all the glue factories down, right?
It’s not something that PR would understand.

When I provide information, I do it without song and dance. The whole point was that relying on bad AI info resulted in a ridiculous conclusion.

It was about the AI information, not about you. It was also for others to learn about how AI seems reasonable while being very wrong.

Also, they did not shut down the “glue factories”, the rendering businesses are very much ongoing operations.

I have a specific allergy to this kind of behavior. He (the OP) has a right to an opinion and a right to ask questions. Giving up or not giving up performance is a subjective matter as I have stated numerous times already and if the OP digs the sound now, there's a chance he might not dig it once he builds a "proper" cab for that speaker.

You have to be an engineer to develop something. You don't need to be an engineer to use ears.
You too missed the point (though not unexpected based on past events), it was all about how relying on AI as good information is wrong.

The OP had no idea he gave up any performance either. Thats why we do the math and don’t assume anything on the internet is accurate without verifying.

Once you know what’s accurate and what’s not, the ears and personal preferences come into play.

The OP has a right to build anything he wants however he wants. Going “over-the-top” on a person who was merely pointing out that he is probably missing a lot of performance with his design doesn’t justify a rude reply. It’s uncalled for and I pointed it out. I’m sorry if that triggered an “allergy”. 😉
AI provided misinformation and that is becoming more of a problem.

I'm willing to share my entire GPT log if you care to see it. BTW it started as a somber affair of me selling a Blue Line SVT (probably 70-72) and lamenting ways of how to find my sonic nirvana. I think you're underestimating the conclusions, and tradeoffs that were decided by a human in this exercise.

I think, an engineer, like yourself could learn something about this whole process. Heck, you could throw the whole thing in your favorite AI to save time and get the abridged version. PM me if you care to.

Show me on the stuffed bear (my reply) where you were offended. Get a grip brother. The regality of others is beyond me. It's a shame it sounds bad, I should've known better.

However, If Mesa sold something halfway representable to us lowly bass players I wouldn't even attempted such a feat. So i took their driver and made my own poopie. Here's a nice sonically perfect lick for you knuckleheads:

You didn’t offend me. If you’ll check the quoted response you just replied to was to someone else. The only thing I took issue with was your response to “agedhorse”.

Enjoy your cab. You did an awesome job on the covering. One of the best Tolex jobs I’ve seen. 👍👍👍. If you’d like a metal grill for it, here’s a link. They do custom sizes.

I'm not even going to waste more arthritis on this discussion.

I'll just drop this - people buying cabs with omg LF response (doing it the "proper" way) and then stuffing an HPF @ 90 hz I mean... come on.

Here's the audio antichrist. Praise Jesus the almighty.

Remember this is an iphone microphone. And I'm no Jaco. First half is B15 preamp voice. 2nd is Tweed.

DBmax was 114 at 2 meters.

Sounds perfectly well to me. And to many others. Be proud of your firstborn (or x-born) and don't pay too much attention to purists. They think it's the only way and "cross my heart and hope to die".

I have studied AI processes so that I can understand the weaknesses. There are actually three huge issues at present:

1. Most common AI (not talking about industry specific applications that are based on closed training) learns from multiple sources and publications from all over the internet. Since there is so much inaccurate information out there, the bad gets mixed with the good. AI presents everything in a convincing way, which can be tricky for those who are not experts to know what can be believed and what can’t.

2. This applies to both internet and AI sources, bad information can be prioritized disproportionally, making it seem better and more accurate than it is. Again, if you don’t really understand the topic and are trying to learn, you fall for what appears believable even though it may be very wrong.

3. The more technical the topic, and the deeper the query, the less likely it is to be accurate. I do engineering consulting for an atmospheric chemist who one of the top 20 in the world, and we tested AI on his subject, which resulted in “made up” text attributed to he and his university team. It appeared believable to laypersons but was completely wrong to the experts.

This is why we aren’t allowed to use AI for any of my projects (in part because we are the experts in our field).

If you are going to use AI, you ought to learn the subject (including the math) first.

I'm not even going to waste more arthritis on this discussion.

Starting out with a fundamentally solid design allows the option (when it’s wanted) to use a HOF to obtain a different response. Most players wouldn’t choose a 95Hz HPF except as an effect, or in a horribly boomy room, but if that’s the desired outcome, than the OP’s cabinet might be ok.

Ignorance is bliss, I’m trying to present more technically correct information for those members (there are actually many based on the messages and questions I receive) who care to learn. For those who are closed minded, they are free to move on.

I'm trying to explain to you that there is no one solution to everything. There are people who enjoy a solid 60hz roll-off, they enjoy and appreciate the tightness they get with it and the control it brings, especially in acoustically compromised spaces (90% of venues). They don't necessarily care if the best this faital can do is 20hz because they don't want it.

A vast majority and bass magic happens in low mids anyways, psycho-acoustically you can't hear the definition of a 20hz sine anyways. I for one have played a vast majority of "proper" cabs, as well as a plethora of dubious (at the very least) contraptions and actually liked them as well. I even have a pretty stupid 2x15 cab lying around with two old RCF 15s in there and it was actually converted from a 2x12 setup and by converted I mean - literally the cutouts were made bigger, that's all.

Is it "proper"? No. Does it sound great? Hell yeah, one of the most buttery smooth sounds I've ever heard. Do I care what is the potential of those 2 RCFs in a super calculated cab? No, because I love exactly how they sound now.

So how will you negate the subjectivity with objectivity, when your objectivity will make it actually worse. Do you understand what I'm saying? (my bet is: no)

Edit: And here I go, breaking my vow of not making my arthritis worse. Oh well. It is the last thing I wanted to say about this anyways, we've been through this many times now.

To everyone who commented on this thread:

I’m very grateful for all of your responses. This is a proud moment for me, for many reasons but the primary one…I finished a project I started. Secondary to that is how pleased I am at the finished product. It was literally mind to matter. Yes, I ripped off a design from 3/4 of a century ago, but there was no rubric.

AI was able to kick my ass off the cliff and actually attempt this task. It’s not perfect. But that’s what makes things cool in my world.

I was sick of having a 360 clean watt BLUE LINE military grade class AB SVT. No usable dirt. So I sold it. I was sick of the slipped disk that 8x10 gave me a number of years ago. But I wanted something analog and portable enough.

I hauled that monster to Maryland and traded it for a check and that Fender PA 135. Then I needed a cab. So here you have it.

Shout out to Full Custom Music Repair for helping me take a $400 amp and make it absolutely wicked.

Thanks for your well wishes. It’s all good.

IF that was his goal, there are much better ways of doing it, more suitable drivers, etc.

He took a driver designed for a ported box and stuck it in a sealed box. If he had chosen a driver designed for a sealed box application, the results would have been better in that there would be options available to alter for less performance.

There are no options to make that Faital driver perform any better in that sealed box, an F3 of 95Hz is as good as it gets and for MOST players that would be (really) unacceptable.

I completely understand the subjective nature of tone and perception of performance, but I also understand that if you don't know any better, haven't heard the better approach, you won't know what you have given up.

Hope your arthritis is doing ok.

That's a fair point and I agree with this. Of course there are better ways to do it. Perhaps the OP had the chance to research this prior to buying a driver. Perhaps he already had the driver lying around.

Though, most of these "frankenstein" cab soups come up by having a spare cab lying around and a couple spare drivers likewise. And so "beggars can't be choosers", you slap them together and hope for the best.

And a lot of time, it works surprisingly well. Yeah you won't be winning NAMM with it but it will serve. And protect. (pun intended)

For the second time, and with all due respect…

What drivers? I need names, Kash.
