I need a band name...

We are three guys, I'm the bassist and vocalist for the group. I want a name for my band that is good and short.

I want something short, like Rush. I've come up with Mauve, but it doesn't really click.

We play Hard rock mostly, some prog rock, and some metal.

Any thoughts? Cheers!

You should do best with a "two-barrelled" name, the best names industry are those to be remembered. The syllables should go either:
DADA DA
or
DA DADA

(ex, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Rolling Stones, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath... etc).

Numerous band have succeeded with this, and skip Rush for now. Otherwise aren't there numerous sites that automatically generates bandnames for you? If we should come up with any good names, we're likely to keep them to outselves should the occasion rise...

Band Name Maker

May not be the most imaginative, but you can get ideas, basically, and take them from there. And avoid anything with COWBOYS in it, please...

I you have two barrelled name, avoid too much of innuendo, like "Tickled Pink" which was proposed in another thread. It wears thin soon. However, double- and ambiguos puns, and contrary catch-22 meaning wordplays are good names if you can hit the right spot. Like, not exactly band names but such contradictory words as: Peace Hawk, War Dove, as opposed to Peace Doves, or War hawk (peace-mongrels). If you can find some other area which to combine two contradictory words together, then people will recognize the small wry and cunning fun in the name, and remember it as a meme. But be careful. It shouldn't have any offending charasteristics.

As with Felt, there's dime a dozen blues bands and garage bands named: "Missing Link" thinking it was the best name there could ever be for any band. Same wovels, two-three syllables, and a meaning of sort of "we are the missing link between ...." and insert any music styles or mental condition here. And they do think they are soooooooo cunning, and are the only ones who could've come up with that name. Just an example of a - relatively speaking - good name, but too many have already came up with that one.
