Man, I wish I could wear an outfit like that. Unfortunately it won't be that easy. This is what we'll look like:

Actually, a sunbusrt jazz bass really fits the 70's nerd genre, in a weezer way.

If you are dressed like that having a really stupid looking bass would be overkill, don't forget that doing too much can totally ruin a look.

A good example:

I found one that caught my eye - I bought this last week!

It's a Rogue. I've bought a guitar/mandolin package from them before and the quality was quite good. So, I felt I could risk $200 on this. Yes, just $200.

It's a 31" scale. It's solid, good finish, low action, intonation perfect, electronics work smoothly. I got much more than $200 worth.

We'll be playing and singing, but there is a backing track with backup vocals and keyboard parts. There is a click that only the drummer will hear. We'll all be using in-ear monitors.

From what I've seen in the photos, the guy in the LA band plays a P-Bass with a checkered pickguard, most of the time. But I have also seen him with something headless.

There is the answer:

P-Bass with a Checkered Pickguard...just get an SX or a Squier, and some paint.

or, if you want to be slightly different:

Cover the pickguard with a piece of really ugly, tacky 70's wallpaper.

Man, imagine this pattern (on your pg, or you kitchen walls)

So I've been recruited by a startup band that has pro management/promotion from an LA-based outfit. They are looking to "franchise" a certain band that is very popular in LA here in Atlanta.

This band is very...different. Only 80's covers. And there is a theme: Super Ultra Geeky. For example - I'll be wearing a bowtie, huge nerdy glasses, a crash helmet, and a Spongebob backpack. The primary focus is "money gigs" like corporate events, weddings, etc.

I really don't feel my sunburst 60's style Jazz will fit the theme. I never thought I would be shopping for an "uncool" bass, but I am.

Any ideas? I need a bass that screams "Geek" like nothing else.

I HATE the music industry.
