I Need A Mini Rig..

I currently bought a new(used) car to replace my gas guzzling truck Dodge Ram Charger. The current upgrade of vehicles means i cannot transport my current rig. Neither the Rack or Cab fits anywhere (trunk, backseat or front seat)

Currently I have a GK1001RB in Rack which i originally planned on filling. I also have a Eden Nemesis 410.

What im looking for is an estimate on how much i could get for the current rig and possibly a proper replacement without spending much if any money at all, seeing as im a full time student :)

Edit: I do like to mention i use Ampeg SVX regularly but not all the time..so i don't think a Power Amp + Cab would be a good replacement.

Sell everything except the GK, buy a Berg HT112 to go with it.

I see no reason why you should get rid of you GK head. They are great heads and sound great. However, get it out of that huge rack. Also, 2x112 cabs are very portable and are plenty loud. GK makes a good neo 112 cab that you could buy to match your head. I bet that would sound great!

From my experience- the Yamaha 1x10's and the Yamaha 2x10 are great cabs and good choices if you want to build a modular system.

EDIT: based on your post below about playing rooms of 200-300: Scratch the 2x10 idea. You're gonna need more oomph than a 2x10. I'd say look into the 12's that everyone is recommending- the other question I have- you gonna have PA support in a place that size? Depending on the actual size of the room, it might not be a bad idea to use some PA help and to focus more on your stage sound....

how much power would i be getting out of it with the Berg HT112, i'm scheduled to be playing club gigs (200-300) in the next couple of months, so i don't want to be underpowered.

I don't think a single 1-12 cabinet is going to cut it for you in a 200 seat room, if you're playing rock at any high volumes. Some of the high priced 1-12"s, like the Berg, are excellent, but still, it's only a single 12" speaker and you could easily push it beyond its useable limits. Better get a 2X12" cabinet, or if that won't fit in your car. a pair of 1X12s. Keep the GK head-it's a very good one. Just get it it out of that rack. It's not needed and it looks so 1980s. :)

I really liked the new GK Neo 1X12 and 2X12 cabinets. A pair of the 1X12s would be easy to carry and you should be able to cram them into the back seat of almost any compact car I've seen. Put the GK in one of the soft cases available and it'll fit in the trunk. Your bass will fit somewhere in the car. I used to move a pair of 1X15 cabs and a GK head and 2 basses around in a little Kia Rio without much trouble and there was still room for a passenger in the front seat. Now I've got a Honda sport utility and I carry a Mesa Walkabout Scout. Go figure.

By the way, the Mesa Walkabout would be a great solution for you. But, they're expensive little devils. I've used mine for almost 3 years now and wouldn't want to change. However, the GK head you have is a great one if only you can find small enough cabinets to go with it. I used GK gear for years and love the sound.

Unfortunately, you pay for the convenience of small and light high powered gear. There's no way around it. You'll probably have to look for something used in your budget range. That'll require a bit of work on your part searching around for what's available locally.

You won't get much for your Nemesis I'm afraid. You always lose a big chunk of money when you sell off even high quality gear.

i agree that you should keep the gk, put in a two space rack bag and you're good to go...

as far as cabs, berg's great but pricey... as far as good cabs that won't cost you too much scratch and are compact? here's a few thoughts:

-aguilar gs112 (used, maybe $250-300, two would be a great stack)
-bag end s15 (used, around $250... depending on your situation, could be used as a standalone)
-avatar b210 neo or sb112 (new around $300, you'd probably want two of the 1x12's eventually)
-peavey 2x10 (used $200, maybe a little heavy, but should be compact enough to fit in a car)
-older eden d115t or d210t (around $300, harder to find, but they're a lot more compact than the current eden 1x15 and 2x10 models)
-used schroeder 1210 or 1212, regular version not light one (maybe around $600, but it would probably be a one cab solution and very compact)

anyway, i'm not saying go with one of these more than the others, but these are some options... and i'm sure others can chime in with a couple more good deals to look out for in compact cabs.

almost forgot, two other options that have adherents on this board:

-dr. bass cabs (drbasscabs.com) has a lot of smaller cabs for very reasonable prices new... in the past, they've been known to take a while filling orders, but it's very well priced equipment.

-low down sound makes custom cabs for low prices... if you get the dimensions of what you need, and give them an idea of how loud you need to be, what sized drivers, etc., they could build you something that could work for you.

best of luck...
