I NEED more punch/sustain!

Practically any song in the doom metal genre would qualify.

"I've never needed this, therefore no one needs it."

Also, wanting more sustain isn't necessarily about wanting a note to ring endlessly, it's more about not wanting a rapid decay after the initial attack.

I know. I've read the reviews. The cables I like are a couple I have that were a house brand of a long defunk music store in my area, Star Music.

Beldon cables and switchcraft plugs. Worked fine and didn't have the material memory that something like a George L has.

And that's fine. A lot of people in doom/stoner rock/metal use flats, actually. But not everybody. People have different ways of going about the business of playing bass.

Just because you don't have a need for something doesn't mean that no one else wants it or might need it.

That's the attitude that pisses me off, the whole "I could do it with this, therefore doing anything else is unnecessary" shtick.

That's a fair point but if people are asking "why would anyone want to do that" it doesn't necessarily imply "no one would want to that". It may just mean they're curious about it, especially if its something unconventional.

My group plays this tune and the music is soft so we can
really feature our singers voice. We almost play it like
a hymn, and I use sustained neck-pup low bassey notes
to simulate a pipe organ's low resonant tone through the
chord changes.

The club vibrates to the low frequency sustained tones
on a gutteral level, always with lots of compliments
afterward. Sustain, done tastefully, can be a great tool
to keep in your arsenal if not overdone.

The way you asked it was as if you didn't believe it was even possible.

You really need an essay to believe that anyone could possibly want a tone with more sustain to it than what you prefer? Should it also include graphs and diagrams?

If you actually didn't want to argue over the internet about it with me, you wouldn't have posted. Nobody made you reply.
