I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

Just got mine, and by got mine I mean I checked my tracking to find out that the mailman had left it on my doorstep. So, I went to fetch it and I have to say, it is pretty darn good. Definitely different from my RK. Not bad different mind you. Lots of low end. Works great when mixed with a clean signal. It will definitely stay on the board.

By the way, isn't the packing amazing on this? How are prices this low?
I hate when you get an update about your package and it says "delivered" and you've been waiting around all day. I have to agree even the packaging is great and he said he feels funny about charging more for his pedals when I asked the same question he's hoping that volume will make up for it I sure hope so I'd like to see him make it.

Yeah, well, luckily I work from home and live in a nice low crime neighbourhood, of a low crime city, of a low crime country. So, technically, my package was never in danger :) But, you know, I probably lost like 15 minutes of enjoyment from it. Never getting those 15 minutes back ;)

By the way, it definitely does low gain, for me anyway. It is different from the RK. It probably won't do all the sounds that the RT/RK does. Not for a lack of flexibility however. They just sound slightly different. The RK could not do all the same sounds of the BB either. The EQ is definitely a nice touch. Better than a classic tone control for dialling down some peaks, especially at higher gain settings. Not sure it interacts as nicely with my fuzz as the RK did. I think I may try it before the Grey Stache as opposed to after. Not like I ever ran both at the same time unless I just wanted to play around with noisemaking.

I'm really glad you guys that are getting yours are enjoying them. I can honestly say, next to my CM2, this is probably one of the best dirt pedals I've had that retains/adds more low end. I almost wish it had a second fs like my RK does so I could use it for low gain and high gain. I always thought my RK wouldn't get mellow enough. It sort of went from way mellow to straight dist. The BB does a better job at separating the two sides.

On a side note, I have an ebow coming. Hopefully it'll be here today. Can't wait to get that going with the BB and some delay. Yeah buddy!!

Hank, it plays awesomely with the BDPG. Bad a** tones man. I'm ways debating on rather or not I want to run the BDPG on all the time because I run the gain on it quite low which severely depletes the output. And I usually have a pretty hot signal going into it so it gets pretty dirty. That's what I'm trying to avoid. But over my vac last week I twiddled and tweaked and I think I found a setting that's going to work for me quite well.

Here's a gut shot

I just ordered one. Simple circuits are the best! Here's my current favorite:

Sooo, running an oc2 in front of the BB gives some rather interesting tones. Only using -1 it sounds kinda like the uni synth section of the ie subt... pretty cool actually I did do some recordings of it but it's apart of another long clip so I'll do some shorter ones with only the BB and the oc2

I just went through my second, maybe third, practice with the BB. Man I love this thing! Im finding, with my P, that I have the treble set around 8 oclock or so, bass around 2 oclock, output probably around 2 oclock and the drive at 1:30 or so. Man, what a sound. Im still on the fence rather or not I want to run my BDPG with it. The way I have mt BDPG set it def gives it more of an edge. But Im not sure if thats what Im after. My band is working on two new songs and the BB matches one if them perfectly. The riff is so awesome and its sounds even better with the BB. Maybe I will try to record a couple riffs this weekend on my SC just to show you guys. Coming along very well. I tried stacking it with my OFD last night on the crunch tube setting. I didnt so it long enough to really decipher rather or not it was stacking well. But I will say it sounded damn wicked. And LOUD :)

Back home and really want to try mine out some more but I think I pulled something in my right hand yesterday while handling my carry-on luggage. My thumb and index finger are killing me and are in a cramped/semi-locked position. Anyway, I will try some awkward playing at lunchtime maybe. So far though, I think that the main difference between this one and the RK is hat it might stay at a more balanced level throughout the distortion range. Not sure how to describe it, but it can get as harsh and heavy as the RK at higher gain levels but it seems to stay more manageable. I definitely like both pedals, but this one is very special.

Mines awaiting a customs fee now - hopefully I'll get back in time to pay it before they shut, so I can crank it up later.

As a side note, the fee being more than a quarter of the price of the pedal with postage, is insane.

I did not pay any fees for import into Canada. Yay for NAFTA! Too bad we get taken on illegal wood and potato tariffs :(

I just went through a bunch of his demos. I like the same bass/amp, same riffs, same everything. He does some of the best demos out there.
Individually the pick of distortion pedals are OK. Some really suck. A/B'd against the Blower and they all seem to sound less appealing. The crossover sounded pretty good after a years time dialing it in. 80% of it's tones sucked though. The others sounded really similar to each other and lifeless. I could be preaching to the masses.

Well, paid the charge & picked it up, replaced the RT on my board with it, and went straight to practise. I think it's going to be a permanent addition to my board.

First of all, this pedal looks amazing.

The sound of it is huge. The controls are very intuitive, the volume on top doesn't bother me but I can see how it would for some, but the bass/gain/treble knobs interact well, and make it easy to dial in. It's easy to get the punch of my clean tone, the low end retention, and the 'snap' of the Rat sound, as the store page puts it, and I had a spot on sound within 15 minutes or so.

It 'sat in the mix' and 'cut through', as the cliches go, and just filled the space around the guitar and drums. I was expecting to have it very low gain, but kept bumping the distortion up, just because it sounded so good (probably ended up a little past noon).

I usually ran my RT with a BDPG to thicken it up & retain the low end, but the Blower did not need it. However, kicking the Broke Dick on after it seemed to add a bit more punch and a small volume & grind boost, so I just used it as flavour for solo parts & big moments in the set. Looking forward to dialling those pedals in together more as time goes on. I didn't get a good (or very different) sound running a Demon into it, but I made no effort to adjust the Fuzzrocious, so that could come with time. I'm thinking the BB will be the only distortion I'll need, using the BDPG in that way.

Gigging with it on Saturday, and I'll know more then, but this pedal is a keeper, and amazing value for the price. Grab one ASAP, if you're into the Rat sound at all.
