I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

Well, paid the charge & picked it up, replaced the RT on my board with it, and went straight to practise. I think it's going to be a permanent addition to my board.

First of all, this pedal looks amazing.

The sound of it is huge. The controls are very intuitive, the volume on top doesn't bother me but I can see how it would for some, but the bass/gain/treble knobs interact well, and make it easy to dial in. It's easy to get the punch of my clean tone, the low end retention, and the 'snap' of the Rat sound, as the store page puts it, and I had a spot on sound within 15 minutes or so.

It 'sat in the mix' and 'cut through', as the cliches go, and just filled the space around the guitar and drums. I was expecting to have it very low gain, but kept bumping the distortion up, just because it sounded so good (probably ended up a little past noon).

I usually ran my RT with a BDPG to thicken it up & retain the low end, but the Blower did not need it. However, kicking the Broke Dick on after it seemed to add a bit more punch and a small volume & grind boost, so I just used it as flavour for solo parts & big moments in the set. Looking forward to dialling those pedals in together more as time goes on. I didn't get a good (or very different) sound running a Demon into it, but I made no effort to adjust the Fuzzrocious, so that could come with time. I'm thinking the BB will be the only distortion I'll need, using the BDPG in that way.

Gigging with it on Saturday, and I'll know more then, but this pedal is a keeper, and amazing value for the price. Grab one ASAP, if you're into the Rat sound at all.
I have to say that for me, I didn't need the bdpg with this pedal.. total overkill, awesome, but so much in the heavy department lol. Grab one people. Amazing pedal!

Back home and really want to try mine out some more but I think I pulled something in my right hand yesterday while handling my carry-on luggage. My thumb and index finger are killing me and are in a cramped/semi-locked position. Anyway, I will try some awkward playing at lunchtime maybe. So far though, I think that the main difference between this one and the RK is hat it might stay at a more balanced level throughout the distortion range. Not sure how to describe it, but it can get as harsh and heavy as the RK at higher gain levels but it seems to stay more manageable. I definitely like both pedals, but this one is very special.

Yeah, I kept stacking the BDPG on top then turning it off during a song. It def makes a rather noticeable difference, just depends on what kind of difference you're looking for. It sounds so sick in the mix though either way. So sick. It has such attitude. This pedal still gets me stoked. Probably always will.

After the last run of purchases I've picked up then this came up, could not resist. Should be here Friday.
We’re recording our set right now direct to the board. Need to stick to my current combo and settings for the sake of consistency.
It will possibly be kicking off the grey stash behind the Demon King and Dunwich Chutulu fuzz on loop 2.
You all are good and bad influences.

Messed around a bit with the BB last night, while playing my fretless P. Got sounds that were very, very B:assmaster'ish. Love my B:assmaster, but it's very much a one-trick pony. The BB is not. Played it with both my Sea Machine and MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe at the same time (I like to mix choruses) and a touch of that B:assmaster sound, and just about bled out my ears. It was fabulous. We cover "In the Airplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel fairly often, and since we lack a musical saw, I tend to layer all sorts of effects on my bass...usually at least two choruses, possibly an octave and fuzz. Last night's rendition with the Sea Machine, MXR, Octave on the Disnortion and BB was great.

Here is a pic of my BB (pics or it did not happen right?)

Dude your board is so hot. What do you think of the BB??

I now need do get a rusty box. Never really looked into that pedal before. Heard about it for so long and never really checked it out. Now that I know what it can do, I wants!!! Bad.

I love it man. It really lives up to the hype. Don't get me started on the Rusty Box. I have wanted one so bad for a while, even made a few offers. My first bass amps were Traynors. I have been wanting to get either a couple of old traynor amps or a rusty box. I am trying to be good and just resist. Just put a few down payments on a bunch of landscaping projects, I must save up :)

Well, one of the first things was the power supply. I know it sounds weird, but the different voltage put me off a bit. Then, I really wanted the enabler because of the headphone amp. Now, it's mostly space. BUT, if I ever get it, it would probably knock the enabler off my board. Also, I have been hoping that Traynor would make a small mini SS head that could generate that tone. But, I don't think that is in the cards anytime soon. Honestly, I am at the point where I don't really want to remove anything from my board. But, maybe on the second board??? :)

What's the voltage on the RB? I thought it was 18 to 24v. I can always just use their ps and plug it into one of my power strips under my board. That's why I love my power setup so much, I can pretty much power anything due to the power strips I have mounted underneath. Except foreign stuff of course. I don't plan on touring Europe any time soon though.

Needs centre positive 24-40v. I think their adaptor is 40v.

Spent some more time with this pedal, and I'm loving it more and more. Dialled in what I'd consider to be a punchy sound on my amp, kicked the pedal on, and the punch was still there - a simple test more than a few other ODs have failed for me. With the bass & treble controls, I've had no problem dialling in tones that I love. I've owned/played most of the ProCo pedals (original Rat, Rat 2, Juggernaut, Turbo), a Gojira Heretic clone of the original & turbo modified for bass, and a Rat Tail and this is hands down my favourite. The RT was on my board for a LONG time - quite possibly 2 years in total, and this has kicked it off in one gig. Unreal.

I'm also very happy that with (very minimal) adjustments, this pedal plays very well with the BDPG. The main difference is, instead of the Broke Dick being always on, I'm using it to add an extra oomph to sections where the guitar drops out or plays more sparsely, as well as 'big' moments of the set. It doesn't particularly change the tone, but definitely thickens it up, adding some low end & mids, a bit more punch and a little more grit. I'm pleased that the BDPG still has a good reason to be on my board.

Right now, I'm using a PT Nano with a tuner, the Blower Box and the BDPG for my hardcore/punk band, and that's it. It works perfectly for me, and since getting it I've found myself using a grind-ier sound, fairly low gain but with a high mids boost, sounds kinda like the sections of 'Goat' by the Jesus Lizard where Sims has the Rat on, but more "me".

I will say that even though I'd keeping the distortion mostly below noon, I have experimented, and with some tweaking it seems that the entire sweep of the knob is very usable. It gets extremely high gain, but its still tight and though it wouldn't work in my band, I'm sure theres places it would. Never owned a pedal with that level of distortion and low end retention.

Even with customs fees & shipping, this pedal came out around the £100 mark, give or take £10 or so. Absolute bargain.

The look alone is what got me at first. I was totally intrigued. Then I watched the YouTube that Matt posted and I was completely sold. When I got it and opened it up, I flipped at just how good this pedal looked in person. It is by far one of if not the coolest most bad a** looking pedal I have or have owned. Then on top of it, it's like a PERFECT rat circuit IMO. It's so simple too. I had usable tones within seconds, literally, of me plugging it in. I still can't stop playing with when I practice. My band just wrote a few new songs and the BB is key to my sound in one of them. Just blows me away still.

Since I got into effects, the rat type distortion was one that I didn't dig at all due to my exp with a newer proco rat. After I took that back to the store, I was over rat dist. Then I kept hearing about the fuzzrocious stuff. I got a RK. I was pretty happy with they for a while but still didn't use it all that much. After getting the BB, it's almost like the rat sound it produces is starting to be my go to right after my OD sound. Just plain love this pedal. It's a no brainer to hold onto and use for years to come. Or at least as long as dirt needs need to be met. And as stated, the OD on this baby is so sweet as well. I wish it had two channels so I could use it as a mild OD and with the stomp of a fs go to straight doom.

This pedal has grown on me, it definitely sounds better with Jazz/Ray type basses than a Precision, and really snarls with a pick. Sounds immense with both PJ pickups of my BB1025X.

Approx sweet spots for me are bass between 2&3 o'clock, gain between 9&10 o'clock and treble between 7-8 o'clock.

Well, one of the first things was the power supply...................

that's what put me off too so when I built my own RB, I added twin charge pumps, so the circuit gets +&-15V (just like the original traynor amp) from a standard 9V supply. the only thing that I left out was the XLR output since I don't use mine as a direct box anyway.
