I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

I got one of these (4 knobs, not lights in the mask) from a TB'r and I'm really loving it. I don't play a lot of heavy stuff anymore, but my god this tone is so grindy. I love it with the gain maxxed out after the OC-2 for a crazy synth tone, but I also am really liking the gain lower at 9 o clock, volume a little past noon. I have the bass at 10 and treble at 9. No idea what everyone's settings are as I have not read much of the thread but the lower gain tone really puts the bass in the front of the mix, and I feel like I may be able to use this for more than just a synth tone, but also as a cool drive tone on some fusion tunes as well.

I usually run mine at lower gain as well. Around 1 or 2 o'clock. It sounds so good way up there though and I will crack it every now and then. It's really hard to pick a gain setting where it really shines because IMO, it shines at most spots.

The biggest reason it stays on my board, the low end is super fat and juicy and that sag is just to die for. It gives it this really cool quality that only comes from a rat. It sounds like tubes to me too. But the uniqueness of the flavor and response have also gave it a solid and steady spot on my board through all the flips and swap outs I've had since I got it. It's so good and unique to my ears, that I keep two rats on board because of it. The fuzzro rat tail I have is just as awesome but in a different way. They are the two best bass rats around IMO. There are a couple others that are very good, but I feel like I have the top of the heap with those two. And now idiot box is coming with another one!! The Landphil. It's a souped up more tweakable blower box. I mean, come on! What more could you ask for?!!?! God I need that pedal.

That's tempting, but, (and this is more of an observation than a criticism), it's priced a bit higher than most Idiotbox pedals, and likewise the shipping cost is also higher. Also, it's a rather large pedal, which is a consideration for me. Maybe Idiotbox will eventually offer a smaller version (as they did with the Blower Box)? But anyway, I'll bet it's a great sounding pedal!

I was interested for a short while when hearing about the Landphil, but why on earth make a dirt pedal so big?

My only complaint about my Blower Box is that the etched graphics on it are so light that it looks like just a plain metal box from more than a few feet away, and I had to look up the controls to know which knob is which. I've seen a lot of pics from people where the graphics on their pedals are much stronger, so maybe I just got an odd one.

I think that's just how they are. Before I had one I always thought the etching was pretty good looking and I could see everything clearly. Then I bought one and in person it's harder to see. But if you take a picture of your box the lighting will make the etching pop. I'm talking about the smaller version. The original run seems obviously darker and more readable.

That combo work with the guitarist as well? How do you setup the B7K post BB? Mainly since there are plenty of options, I'm curious if it's simple signal boost or your double stacking dirt. Never used Aguilar but as I understand it it's a solid clean tone stack.

Man I'm glad a couple other people got this and can share in my excitement for it. It is def a bangin a** piece of rat doom. I agree with you rabid about the noise floor, I thought it wasn't going to be able to cut it in the mix. Man was I wrong. This pedal may be deceiving with the volume pot, but when you're in the mix, just crank that baby and it's on! And the gain levels you can get goin on is really good too. As mjac stated, it can go anywhere from low gain to tear your face off and it does everything in between and does it very well. I'm thinking it'll be onboard for quite a while. And I've said that about quite a few other pedals. I'm pretty confident about this one.

Showed up to a rehearsal yesterday for a Misfits set on Halloween. Guitarist flaked so it was just me with the drummer and vocalist. Plugged into an Aguilar head with 2x15. P-bass > Blower Box > B7k. Completely brutal tone. No guitarist needed. Blower Box still rules.

YUS!!! @ole Jason, this box STILL rules. I'm quoting my first post in this thread from over 2 years ago and my BB has been on my board ever since. It's funny because I've said that about other pedals before, that they will be there for a long time haha, but the BB is the only one besides the B7K (well, the B7K has been swapped out but for the Ultra ver) and Rusty Box that havent been swapped out or replaced. Nah, there are a handful of pedals that have stayed since I got them. But as far as dirt is concerned, the BB is the one that has stayed put. I still love this pedal a lot. Some of my other forum buddies be hatin on it and givin me poopie for it to this day haha just yest actually! But I dont care, the BB does indeed rule. And wouldnt you know it, I also run a Rat Tail now too!!!

I REALLY want a Landphil now. That would most likely be the only one to knock the BB off. It is a bit bigger which sorta sucks but I would make the sacrifice if/when I get one. Have you guys seen the damn thing?! Its beautiful! All the lovely knobs n stuff.....mmmmm.... knobs......[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
