Have you considered an MTD 535 or 635? Ash with a Maple Neck, OMG, talk about a bright,snappy, articulated sound...

I did stared for a while at that amazing burl 635 from the GrooveShoppe, but I never played one and don't plan to get a bass from the USA that soon, too much mail and customs hassle. MTD basses are not distributed in my country. (they should )
