I think I've invented a cure for titannus?

Wait a few years and you might have your cure. Electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve combined with the playing of specific high frequency tones may reverse tinnitus by "resetting" the malfunctioning neurons and improving brain response.

Just curios why the vagus? It doesn't really have anything to do with hearing from my knowledge. By electrical stimulation maybe you would activate the parasympathetic nervous system, but why would that help?

Perhaps you meant the vestibulocochlear nerve?

It's kind of like performing a hard reset on that part of the brain... It's well known that listening to certain tones or noises can provide relief from tinnitus but only while listening to those sounds... The vagus stimulation while being exposed to certain tones sort of resets the misfiring nerves, like recalibrating them back to zero, in an audio sense.

I thank God every day that my guitarist doesn't try to blow me out of the water, and that my drummer uses a shield. Although it's still loud as crap when we practice in our tight space in my basement, it's not nearly as bad as most people.

As someone who has had severe tinnitus for the last 4 years, and who has absolutely studied everything possible to eradicate it, I can confirm that your idea (one I had also considered early on) will not work.

The mechanism of tinnitus is not one where sound is "physically produced", so there is not possibility for cancellation. Tinnitus sufferers are not "hearing" sound (as in, their ears are not creating electrical impulses because of sound pressure on the mechanical parts of the ear itself), rather, they are peceiving sound from within their ears as a result of brain response to damaged cilia within the inner ear.

It's a horrible, horrible "disease", which is often accompanied by hyperacuity (which I have really bad - imagine the sound of a refrigerator fan - something frequently ignored - as being extremely irritating), You also never, ever, hear silence again!

Remember folks, your ears, like everything else, have a "life budget", and loud music DOES erode this budget. Practice sensibility before it's too late - because there is no cure for it. You wake up one day, and life is different from there on out.....

I have tinnitus fairly bad. It really sucks but after a while you kind of get used to it. It's like the constant eeEEEeeeEeEeEEeeE tone in your ears after a gig, only forever. A cure would be great.
Fortunately my titannus on the other hand has been cured by a m-assdectomy.

God, I'm only 18 and I have it very slightly. I mostly notice it at night, when it is totally silent in my room. If the AC is turned on, or even the very slight hum from my fan is on, I totally forget about it. Thank God

After concerts though, like EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival - A 10 hour long electronic concert that went on throughout the night. The bass was enough to make my clothes vibrate) my ears were ringing for like two weeks, REALLY REALLY loud.

It does go away everyone once an awhile, and it is not a constant tone for me. It sounds more like when trying to tune a string by harmonics, and you are really close to lining the two up. It kind of is a wave in its own.

Also, it's really really high pitched. Like maybe somewhere up in the "mosquito" ringtone. That is a ringtone at a high frequency that most adults can't hear, so think really really high pitched.

I have since learned to not blast my headphones (If anyone knows of a headphone that has some other way of "feeling the bass" I seem to recall a Japan maker actually installed a little vibrator in their buds that would vibrate at the frequency of the bass so you felt it) and my music.

What kind of earplugs should I use? Just the cheap ones? I am seriously considering not playing bass in a band anymore just so this doesn't get worse. I can't imagine how bad some people have it, and how they deal with it.

The ONLY devices I could find that claim to "cure" tinnitus are devices that MASK the sound and get the brain to ignore or forget about it. Nothing that generates an out of phase sound.

I would sure welcome some treatment that worked!

We recently spent a long weekend in the Santa Ynez wine country, and for the weekend, it was gone - I would like to know why. The wine perhaps? A treatment I could embrace and enjoy.
