Well maybe he dropped the price because ain't nobody going to pay that kind of money for it.

Of course, it is temporarily impossible to reach Walter (until after Labor Day according to his message) so some desperate buyer might kick in the extra few hundred dollars for immediate service.

Oh, one other thing to mention. There is a WW scam happening on ebay every couple weeks. Now and then a mint M-300 comes up on ebay, always with the same pictures and description, but from a different seller each time. Then the auction is cancelled after a couple days.

I placed bids on the M-300 in two different auctions recently, only to receive emails from ebay stating that the listing was pulled due to the seller's account being "compromised." So... watch out for that. Seems like some kind of scam to me.

Since B String made this post I would advise you to ask for the Serial No. of any older model Walter Woods amp, or ask the seller
when he purchased it. MI 100's were built as far back as the early
1970's. IMHO I would want to know if they can be repaired before
I bought one. Only Walter knows the answer to that question. Good Luck.

When I first got my WW, I plugged it into my LDS cabinet and turned it on. I put my head 3 inches away from the speaker and heard pure silence.

The sound difference is not night and day. The WW is just cleaner, more exact, more transparent. My dad walked in the room and said, "Why don't you turn the amp on?" I replied, "It is on."

One thing about the WW is that it doesn't exaggerate the lowest notes on the instrument. I was disappointed at first but then I realized it is accurate. I now prefer the balanced sound of the MI 100 to the booming E string notes I get out of other amps.

edit: Also, the EQ seems to be very interesting and has lots of options. I haven't really scratched the surface of that yet, though. To be honest I'm not sure I need to...

My guess is about the same as Freddels, with two qualifications. You'll notice that it does not have the "extended black side panels that your Ultra does, that could possibly mean that it's older then the 80's, as I had one that I bought in 1978 that looks exactly like it. Another thing that would tell you it's older, is to have the current owner open it up from the bottom and see if there is a bank of 4 or 5 large sliver canisters ( I believe these are filter capacitors) that would possibly mean thats it's from the late 70's as well. Of course, the only way to really know is to call Walter and give him the serial no. In 1978 I paid $600.00 for this amp

I have and use this exct amp and it was made in 1985. I opened it up yesterday cause the handle screw came off and it said 1985 and then a repair date of 1989. A little armor all on the outside and some pot cleaner made it look and sound good as new...it has the six silver canisters too.
yeah for walter.
I had this puppy in storage for years until I started reading posts here. It didn't sound good with the realist to me but is sounds great with the Vektor.

You know folks, I think it would be really helpful to try and get some kind of listing of the various Walter Woods models, there original price, years they were built and which ones can be repaired (help). That way we could put the thread in the Newbies section for all those guys and gals that are bidding on these amps. Could be really helpful, the problem will be tracing the different models down.
