Ibanez BTB’s

I guarantee it will easily cut through. That bass has the vari mid preamp, so to cut through all you've have to do is take the mid frequency knob (the larger one on the mid control stack) and boost it fully, then bring it back to where you just start to see the notch on it from your playing view. After that, slightly boost the mid control, or, crank it for maximum "cut through the mix". Those big singles will easily do what you need them to, especially with the vari mid preamp.

Which cases will work with it?

I have two BTBs.
BTB1835, premium line, Aguilar pickups.
605MS, workshop line, T1 pickups from Ibanez.
The 605 workshop line is actually configured just like the premium line, but simpler (and cheaper?) woods

There's a music store near me with a SDGB1.
It is indeed just like the premium line BTB but with sweepable mids rather than a 3-way selector.

It played as well as I expect from my fretted BTB experience.
Ebonol board is very hard and has a more 'fretted' quality to the sound than other fretless basses I've played.
I can echo that it is absolutely able to cut through in a mix.
The longer it remains in store, the more likely it ends up with me. 😶

It's the same size as the 1835, so I can say it fits in a Gator G-PG case.
Ibanez MRB350C and MRB500C will also fit it.
Honestly, it's not too hard to find other cases that will fit it as well.

No I was wrong, the model number above is correct. MRB350C. I have the smaller version and it is perhaps overkill unless you are planning on airline travel. I too like Gator cases, for my other basses. Lighter.

Just got this beautiful BTB 1806 back from Sweetwater today. I bought it from a guy on the Sweetwater gear exchange and it needed a bit of love for the frets. Had them plek it and give it a new tusq nut. Plays beautifully now! I previously had made a ramp for my BTB1206E out of 3/8" polycarbonate, but since have had a flamed maple ramp made for that one, so the 1806 gets the clear one. Pics of what I used to secure the ramp shown below, in case you guys need the info.

I have the BTB 1206E prestige too, do you find the body bevel on the prestige more confotable than in the 1806?

You better believe it. The 1206E should be how they make all of the BTB line. My BTB 846v and this 1806 both have that terrible sharp body edge, as did the 806ms that I returned to Sweetwater. In all honesty, the 1206E is STILL far superior, even being 20 years old, to any new BTB, in my opinion.

The bass got delivered today. The Steve Digiorgio signature bass. It was delivered to my work place, so I will post pics soon. I won’t see the bass until tomorrow. Don’t worry, it’s safe and secure. For the moment I have 2 options. I have a Spector gig bag not being used. Will it fit in that Spector gig bag? I also have a Levy’s gig bag that is like a hybrid case storing my musicman stingray. Pretty sure it would fit in that one too. Wonder if the stingray would fit in the Spector bag if the BTB goes to the Levy’s case

Now here is my latest question. I asked this one on the BTB owners club on Facebook. The Steve Digiorgio is the only fretless BTB available now, but apparently it’s not the first. I remember in late 2019, early 2020 pre Covid that there were 2 fretless BTB’s on zzounds. One was a 5 string and one was a 6 string. They were a blueish color and I think they had the fretlines. Yesterday to make sure I wasn’t crazy I typed up Ibanez fretless BTB and sure enough they popped up on a guitar review website. The date on it was 2019. So out of curiosity, what happened? It seems like they were forgotten. Did Covid interfere with the production of them?

I am a BTB fan. The red 400QM was my first. I love the sweep-able mid control.

I wanted a neck through, so I picked up the 670. That one may be the best playing BTB that I have. I swapped the pre-amp with the Bartolini NTMB+F which added a bypass and mid range frequency selector (push-pull knobs) and I think makes it sound much better. (Fuller? Bigger?).

I then found a good deal on that 1835. It was an "open box". So brand-new and $500 off of list, so i took the chance. It's perfect. Could not be happier with that purchase.

I am however a 4 string player 99% of the time, so when I found the 740 i could not say no. It is the last 4 string BTB that Ibanez made. It was available from 2017-2019. Mine is the 2017 version, so it has the Mahogany back and maple/rosewood neck with a rosewood finger board. They changed the neck to maple/walnut and fingerboard to Jatobá in 2018 and changed the back to okume in 2019.

As far as a case, I also have standard issue Gator cases and they all fit just fine. there is a little slop but unless i plan on shipping or flying with them, they protect well from the normal transport issues.

good luck

Here she is. Tuesday was NBD. I finally tried it out today. Everything works fine. For bedroom playing it sounds great. Hopefully for band purposes it won’t let me down either. The gotoh tuners are definitely a step up from the standard BTB tuners and so are the knobs. The finish reminds me of the SR finishes instead of what you would associate with the BTB basses.
