I got my BTB805MS about a month ago and it has been a joy to play!
Anyone noticed the preamp being noisy when you have the highs cranked way up and close to a computer? I'm primarily a guitar player and haven't had this issue with my non-preamp-ed guitars.

I’ve had this btb since 1999. It’s the only bass I’ve kept after going through some things— luckily my situation is different. It bring much sentimental value.

That is beautiful. What model is that? It looks like a neck-thru design...
I have the original 1999 Japanese made BTB1005 and it looks similar but mine is not neck-thru. Great basses and still can be found for reasonable prices. The BTB1005 is the one on the left. The other is a Korean BTB 4-string. Also fantastic instrument. I bought it with the neck rod nut stripped so it is a future project to fix that. Never enough time!
At closer look.. I think yours is the same model as mine (esp. if 1999). Do you still play it on occasion? Such wide necks. When I switch from an SR to the BTB it is always a bit of a shock. That said, the low B string just booms on the BTB. Love it.
Its the same one BTB1005 MIJ. The low B are great on these basses. I don't play it at all I keep it nicely secure in it's hard case, occasionally I take it out to look at it.
Sounds like the bass is picking up noise signal coming from the computer. Maybe a post for them pickups and preamps gurus on talkbass.

Proper Cu shielding of all cavity spaces should be the first point of attack.
I was trying to avoid this extra work. Looks like the cavity only has conductive paint and aluminum tape on the back cover.
Life sucks that way, but it doesn't cost much, really isn't a lot of work and it's a once only job if you do it right.
It took 9 months for the idea to incubate, and now that I have the money (and hopefully soon the use), it's finally getting real!

I'm torn between two, the Bartolini system, which I know very well and a Glockenklang, which I know by reputation only.

But all that aside, opinions are VERY welcome - shoot!!!!

- Bartolini @ £155 (3 band, active/passive, 3-way mini toggle mid freq, 9/18v)

Hi Julian. I would go with the Bartolini. Or, even better, check out the Audere Pro Z preamp. It is excellent! As for pickups, I prefer Aguilar DCBs.
Hi Mike - thanks for the response. yeah, I'm definitely leaning towards Barts. Boy, I'd love to get my hands on an Audere rig, but sadly they don't ship internationally, and I'm in the UK - considering an intermediary, but not sure. Aguilar are awesome, but like, twice the price of Barts ... and I'm not sure they are twice as good - or are they?
I'd be cautious about using the Aguilar for 6 string MK1 replacements. Unless you are okay in routing the BTB body for larger size pickups (D4 size), your option is limited to Aguilar DCB in D2 size, which is somewhat meant to be use on 5 string basses, as it is the correct size for Bartolini P2/MK replacement from Aguilar. In case you're not aware, the width of the pickup doesn't translate directly to its sensing width. So, you'll need to measure the sensing width of the DCB D2 or ask them about it since this data seems not available on Aguilar web pages, and compare it with the required width to sense the whole 6 strings on your BTB.
The safest are any of Bart's MK6 variants. IME on previously owned Cort Artisan A6, replacing the factory MK1-6 pups to a pair of MK6CBC pups, gave a clear tonal change.

My cover of Glass Hammer's version of Yes's "South Side of the Sky" with my BTB776PB.
I;m putting it into a Darkglass Hyperluminal comp, Tech 21 SansAmp DI-2112, Markbass Chorus/Flanger and TC Electronic Nova System into my Trace Elliot MP-11 pre, then the FocusRite.

I'm leaning towards those - not for nothing, but they are the recommended replacements for the MK1s (best bass gear dot com being one, and one I like very much for sound advise).
Those who have seen any of my posts know that I love gold hardware on my dark natural wood basses.
But my BTB has gone without for the longest time.
Because gold MR2 single string saddles have been non existent,I've tolerated the dark nickel hardware.
Until now.
By a stroke of luck I have found a set of gold saddles the same size and style(I don't think they are genuine Ibanez,but so what)as MR2's.
So now the customization of my BTB will begin.
A bit later a set of gold Hipshot Y key Ultralite tuners will be ordered.
But my BTB has gone without for the longest time.
