What's the 1405 like compared to the 675? And if anyone has played both, how does the btb1405 compare with the sr1805?
I'm qualified to answer this being I've owned all 3. The BTB1405 is hands down better than the 675 and it isn't even close. The quality and sound you get out of the premium 1405 is as good as anything I've ever played. The 1805 is a different comparison because of the narrower spacing. The 1805 was better for me considering I have smaller hands but they are very close in sound and how they sit in the mix. I recorded our last album using my BTB1405 and the sound engineer was amazed at how it sounded in the mix. Before that I recoded with Stingrays and there is no comparison to clarity and punch of the premium Ibanez and Stingray basses.
Thanks man - safe to say the winner is the btb 1405. That's interesting about the comparison with the stingray - does it have more punch but in the same places, i.e. lows and highs?
Similar amount of punch but the clarity is what separates the BTB 1405 with Nordy pickups over the Stingrays for me. The Stingrays have growl and punch but are somewhat muddy and not defined in a full mix. The sound engineer played back some of the bass tracks I laid with the Stingray the previous time and compared it to the btb 1405 and it was amazing the difference.
I've been thinking about getting an extended range Ibanez wither this year or next with my tax return but I'm trying to decide between the six string 1406 and the seven string. How does the sound and playability of the two compare?
See if anything the stingray has a little too much top end sizzle for my taste, maybe I need to look elsewhere...
Been looking at a BTB7E at guitar center for a little bit. Went there today to play it some more (I'm slightly obsessive) and the action is pretty high. Way higher than my Cirrus 6. The neck looks a bit bowed towards the headstock. Can this be fixed with a proper setup? I don't really know what is an indication of a neck that needs serious help or is busted. Is there anything else I should look for before potentially buying? Thanks!
I found the same thing with the BTB7E I played in Toronto. Very high action and playability was terrible. Not sure if the neck was buggered or it just needed a setup.
The neck is also humongous. I wasn't a fan at all. I am likely buying a Terrafirma 6er. Every one of these I have played has been great.... low action and nice playability.
I would insist on a brand new one in the box instead of buying the floor model.
Does anyone have any hands on experience with the 7e and the 1406? Looking for overall quality and tone reviews. I'm leaning heavily towards the 7e but if the 1406 is far better then I may choose it instead.
Well, I took the plunge tonight and ordered a BTB686SC Terra Firma 6er. I have been close to pulling the trigger on one of these since they were released almost a year ago.
I am a 5er guy but really want to get back into a 6er without breaking the bank or losing a fortune if I find that I want to go back to playing 5ers exclusively and sell the Terra Firma (unlikely). The Terra Firma ain't exactly cheap but I got a great deal on the bass. At just over $800US new, I couldn't refuse.
The retailer had a few in stock at other locations, but I will wait the 1-2 weeks to get a untouched one directly from Ibanez.
I am pretty excited as I have played a few different ones and they are amazing quality for the $$$ and play/sound great.
No pics as I don't have the bass yet, but you get the idea.....

Did you all see the Ocean Blue and Deep Rose color finish BTB 1406 basses at American Music Supply?

Wow hadn't seen them, thought those finishes looked pretty good on the sr bass but wow! These had better become available in the uk!
Not so sure if they will, since AMS is so far the only one who offers this. Though The Perfect Bass sold some green colored MTD basses in the past.
Wow that thing looks sweet! That 7 piece neck looks really good. I've been debating on getting a 6 string and the BTB would be pretty high on my list. I'd probably get a Dingwall Afterburner 6 if I could afford it. I do have a Dingwall NG-2 Combustion on order right now.

One's a 405QM and the other's a 785PB
The 785 Poplar Burl on the left is currently my main bass. It's got Piezo's in the bridge and Bartolini MK2s. The piezos are cool to tinker with, but I rarely use em. I really dig this 785. It's got tone for days, gonna be weird watching it take a back seat when my NG-2 comes in.
