Got the BTB in today. I was close to ordering a used 405 and then a used Prestige. But I got a killer price match on a new 846.
Love the tone. Looks beautiful. Very surprised at the light weight ... I expected EBMM kinda weight. Very nice.
I am tripping all over myself going from 4 strings to 6 but I'm keeping at it.

Yeah .... AMS was blowing them out so GC matched. Paid about $1025 with tax. Woulda been close to $1200 otherwise
I ordered a new BTB846S (single cut) from Sweetwater. Should show up tomorrow. They were exceptionally good on the price and free shipping.

I didn't even know these existed... until 10 days ago. I saw my first BTB and it was like nothing I'd ever seen before... Had to have it and I think I got a pretty good deal too. Deal would have been really good had I not been dinged for that pesky 10.25% sales tax drool. This is a BTB675M. I haven't seen very many maple fingerboards on these. Weight? Mine weighs 9 pounds 6 ounces. Not all that light, but not Les Paul heavy. Never thought I'd own a bass like this. Will probably take it to rehearsal for first time this afternoon.
What are you guys stringing your BTB's with?

Thanks. My jaw just about dropped when I first saw it. Then I saw the price tag and it was within "spittin' distance" from what I thought I could afford... Manager stepped in, made me an offer and the rest is history.
As for strings, the Elixirs that come stock on BTBs sounded good to me.
I've also used DR Long Necks, which were brighter, but right now I have GHS Bass Boomers with a 125 B string.
I like these too, but then I like round wounds that are not too bright.

They're putting D XL New Yorks on em now. Damn this thing growls. Sounds like the old CAP pups Ibanez used to use. Nothing like the Mk 1s in my other Ibbys.

Not sure about the weight ... no scales. Coming from three Ibanez SRs I was sure the weight would take some adjustment. But the weight hasn't been an issue at all. I really don't notice it. It's gotta be well under ten. It's about like wearing one of my Les Paul Tributes and feels about the same weight when I hold both by the neck. So around 8 or 9 lbs.
Oh ... I was wrong about the fretboard. I looked with my glasses on (lol) and it's 1P01 rosewood. Made in July last year.

I do okay when walking up and down and moving across strings. But skipping strings I run totally off the reservation. Lol
I'm going to have to work on my damping. Since I switched to bass I sort of developed an unconscious habit of muting with fingers and knuckles while staying anchored on the rear pup. Of course this won't work with the boat paddle. Suggestions are most welcome.
There sure is a lot of real estate across the strings, isn't there? Mercifully I never developed a habit of anchoring. I'm just a bass newbie, so what do I know? But I'm thinking that the floating thumb is probably the best way to go. If you're anchored at the forearm then you have enough resistance already and really don't need the thumb to be stationary. If you're anchored on the rear pup, how do you move toward and away from the neck to control tone?

I move my anchor back and forth between pups. And on the fretless I anchor on the end of the fretboard.
Edit ... the way I tie into the pups I can easily move in front of them or behind. Pretty much cover the whole area from the btidge to the board. I've never had lessons and probably developed some odd habits.
Gotta work on the float I guess. Or grow longer digits.

Well I decided to keep him. Took the protective film off the pups today and will lay a thorough setup on him tonight.
I love the growl. Love how stable the neck is - I never have to retune. Love the BH-1s. The weight is very manageable. And it's becoming comfortable.
Don't like the input jack. That has to go.

I was looking at bass amps the other day and they had a new BTB745, which I guess is the updated version of the 675 and it was significantly lighter in feel than my BTB675 which is almost 9.5 pounds. Ibanez must have done something to relieve the weight.
That Neutrik jack is really something, no? Takes two hands to unplug. You're more likely to rip the cable out of the plug than rip the plug out of the guitar. It's taken some getting used to, but I don't mind it like you do.
