Ibanez Promethean

I'm just wondering if some B-stock units were sold to one dealer (MF, in this case) and those are where the problem amps are coming from. Has anyone had a defective Promethean and bought it from a brick and mortar retailer?

Often times manufacturers will sell ALL of their B-stock or C-stock inventory to one large vendor (MF, GC, Sam Ash, etc)... That's the reason for my question - not to say it's MF's fault, or whatever...

I've run the P5110 with an old Trace Elliot 1518T, and yes, it's a great way to go. The 15" fills the room, and I can point the combo at myself for better monitoring. That little kickstand is okay, but when it's just the Promethean I use a fold-back cradle which makes for a 45 degree tiltback.

The input gain is sensitive to high output basses & the tone is not so nice when the input clips. That said, once you make friends with the gain structure it is very easy to dial in a variety of pleasing tones. The master output has enough kahunas to handle a bar gig easily. I use a Peavey Millennium (18v active) so output is pretty hot. With that bass I have found a sweet spot in the gain at about 9:30 to 10:00.

So I running Millennium into Promethean into a GB NeoX 212T and am getting a really nice result. Plenty of volume with headroom and satisfying tone.
This combination of bass, amp, & cab is giving me everything I want or need. So yeah I'm very happy with the end result.

Ibanez returned my Promethean.

It took about 3 days for them to repair it.

It seems to be working fine.

It comes on instantly, less than a second.

There is a review of the Promethean in Bass Gear Magazine that just came out today.

To sum it up they said it is one of the best micro amps on the market...

Glad to hear Ibanez fixed it quickly. Looking forward to reading the review.

Not to be nit picky, but they said "the Promethean appears to be an impressive introduction in a very competitive field." There was no claim that it was one of the best on the market.

Pota-toes, Po-tot-toes...
Um, no. This isn't an issue of pronunciation, wording, semantics, or anything else. The portrayal of Bass Gear Magazine as having made the claim that the Promethean "is one of the best micro amps on the market" is absolutely 100% false. It's not even a summation of the review as was alluded to here. By the way, what they did state is HIGHLY flattering on it's own, so good job Ibanez. :bassist:

Listen,

I gave MY summation of what I read.

That's not a good enough reason to misquote anything.

I have a life. Honestly. I just don't think it's cool to come to a forum where people gather information and form opinions on items based on info that is categorically false. Not everyone is going to read the article.

You are the one who thinks the Promethean is one of the best micro heads on the market it seems. That's totally cool! I agree with you! But why not just state that as your opinion instead of trying to purport it as the opinion of a reputable magazine?
