Ibanez Promethean

I've had for nearly two years without any problems. Gets thrown in the back seat of the car every week for practice and is permanently set up in my home office / home studio where it's used 5-6 times a week in that setting as well. I've been seriously impressed with this little guy. It doesn't have the big booty on the B string of some other setups but the low end response is adequate. I use my Genz Benz ShuttleMax 6.0 and GB Neox 112 cab for larger situations.

I went into the store where I bought it wanting to try out the new Lakland AJ bass. I test- drove the bass using the Promethean and came out of the store with the amp instead.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to update my previous posting on the Ibanez PS5110. I am having problems with the amplifier section which is playing low and distorted for 5-10 minutes until it warms up then it seems to be fine for the rest of the time I'm using it. The unit has exhibited random drops in volume for no reason and then it recovers and everything appears fine.... until it does it again. The occurrences appear to be increasing in frequency so I'm going to have it looked at.

Note to Canadian owners: Ibanez is distributed in Canada by Efkay Music. Whereas in the U.S. the Ibanez Promethean amps have a five year warranty, in Canada the warranty is only one year. I contacted Efkay and they do not repair out of warranty amps. They referred me to some local dealers but were unable to state with any degree of certainty whether or not they would actually accept the amp for repair.

Anyway, for a couple of hundred bucks I'll get it fixed, it did work very well for a few years and I still really like it.

If you get it into a shop, ask them which part(s) were bad. There are a number of us who have had similar reliability issues. If they can be fixed by swapping out a couple of components, we'd like to know.

The solder holes in these boards are very sensitive to heat so it's really easy to lift a solder pad if you're not careful. It would be good to know specifically what the fix is so we only have to touch the bad components.

My Promethean was repaired with the diagnosis being some cold solder traces. I'm no expert but I have my doubts and hope that this is a permanent fix.
