Ibanez Promethean

They had it at Summer NAMM. I did not get to play it though.

We'll have a 'Quick Look' review in the upcoming issue that I'm still working on, and a more in depth test to follow. I will say for now that the combo is very much worth considering on its own especially due to the fact the head can be used on its own. The sound of the head is easily in the top group of micros I've used.

I'm eager to see what the guys at Bass Gear Magazine have to say about it, in particular the bench test for power output. 500w in a $500 micro head sounds like it might be too good to be true. I'm guessing it's more in the ballpark of 400w, but we'll see

I played one today at my local music shop, arc music of boca, and it was a great sounding head, I really dug the vibe control they have on this thing. I didn't have enough time to really put the head, and the head/combo, through the paces as I was just in and out today having to rush home. However, heres a few thoughts...

What a great sounding head, played it through a new Marshall 4x10 4 ohm cab and this thing killed. I have played the matching Marshall head with the same cabinet before and never cared for it. I was playing around with the eq, not even engaging the sliders, and I was always able to get a pleasant and very musical tone.
The vibe control was very very very interesting to me, almost like the Markbass VLE (however not a ton of experiences with MB so thats all I can say). I was able to get a convincing vintage tone when I rolled it all the way down, and when I turned it all the way up I got a bright modern tone that I really got into, esp slapping and plucking.
This thing is TINY, much smaller than the MB stuff (not quite as tall) and it is extraordinarily light. I can see this head fitting in almost every gigbag being that it is about the size of a hardcover book and it was very very light. I wasnt able to sit down with the combo but I did check it out briefly. It was very light, as in I was able to pick it up with 1 finger. It has a cool and durable coating/covering that looks to be able to handle a ton of abuse.
RED! This thing is loud not only to the ears, but to the eyes. Personally it kinda turned me off, but I can see alot of people liking it.
The price, 499 for the head and 699 for the combo is a steal IMHO, but before I go out on a limb and recommend it to everyone I'd like to go ahead and sit down with it and spend more than a couple minutes, but from what I saw and heard, I think Ibanez hit a homerun!

Okay, in possession right now I have an Ibanez Prometheus 1x10 combo, a Shuttle 6.0 2x10 combo, and a TC Electronics RH450 w/a 2x10 cab AND a 2x12 cab! I'm working on a quick video review, which I will post hopefully sometime this week.

I've owned/played the Genz Benz for a year or so now, and it's a great combo. I just received the RH450 today, and it looks like it will be my new rig. The Prometheus is on loan from my store for me to check out and review. I'm a lucky dude or what? :D
