Ibanez Promethean

Thanks for the review. I'd have to try one out myself but it sounds like it might be able to get a good gig sound. Lot of distortion on the rock stuff though. Was that intentional?

I liked what the vintage control did. I'd love to hear a P with flat wounds through it.

Compared to the Markbass I tried I think I'd like this one better. With a bigger speaker it sounds like it could be quite a capable amp.

I am SO close to pulling the trigger on one of these - I really want the 2X10, but the 1X10 would probably work for 99% of my needs, and be a whole bunch easier to carry. I suppose I could add the 1X10 extension when it becomes available, or just pick up a 2X10 Avatar or similar cab, since the head removes so easily.

Blooz :bassist:

DKB! Thanks for the review.

More info on the 210 Please! Particularly Ohms.

The 110 is obviously 8 Ohms, but I can't find squat about the 210 on the Missinformation Highway man. 2x16 Ohm 10" or 2x8 Ohm 10"?

If the 210 is 8 Ohms, at this price point I'd pop for two of the Promethean 210 puppies, stack 'em up and stand back! Anything goes wrong on the gig you've got a spare head!:hyper:

Well, not exactly. There was some distortion from my mic preamp clipping out. Like I mentioned I had a heck of a time getting my video recording gear to work, for some reason. Towards the end I finally figured it out, but at that point I just wanted to get the review done, so I didn't go back and redo any of it...

how well does it do aggressive, mid-heavy slightly driven stuff.. say played on a P or J?

I didn't test it with a P, but it can definitely handle an aggressive, mid-heavy J, no problem.

The 2x10 is shipping later this month, but I would agree with you. If you think 2x10 is enough for your needs, I would likely get the 1x10 and an extension cab. VERY lightweight and portable that way!

How is the promethean compared to TC's Rebel head and Markbass???

Not sure on the Markbass, as I don't have one, but I will be doing a shoot out with the Promethean, the RH450 and the GB Shuttle 6.0. Right now, I can say that the Promethean almost seems like a cross between the Shuttle and the RH450. With the Vibe control you can dial in some of the warmth that you get with the RH450, but if you turn it off, you get the hi-fi modern sound of the GB... More to come later....

Hmm, interesting idea. You'd have a lightweight high-powered tone machine at that point, for sure. Honestly, I'm VERY impressed with the Promethean the more I've played it. I like it BETTER than my Shuttle 6.0.

Of course, I like my TC the best. :D

So you would rather go for the TC??, i have to try the Ibanez and the TC with my own bass then and make up my mind... I want at light rig that can give me the same power and sound as i have now, and not mess up my back cause its to heavy.

So you would rather go for the TC?

Yes, but I think you have to take in to account the price. The TC Rig is certainly more expensive, but it's options or so vast, and I personally really dig the movable EQ centers, the excellent compressor, the three-channel memory, etc.

But for the money, I don't think the Promethean can be beat...

I would like to hear it against another 1x10 combo (like say a Hartke Kickback 10).

The Promethean has more power, but how much more can you get out of a single 10 in a small box?

Of course you can add an extension cab for bigger gigs which nice...just some more thoughts on it.
