Ibanez Promethean

I'm pulling the trigger on this thing as soon as I get payed on Friday. For some reason I have a really good feeling about this amp. I'll give a little review when I get it.

I'll be using it with a new Hartke HX115 HyDrive Cab. I checked the new HyDrive cabs out today and really like the single 15 cab!! I'll keep you guys posted.

So I got mine today (actually yesterday). So far, I like it. With it's eq, and the eq on my bass, I'm able to get a pretty wide range of sounds.

I'll give a little update tomorrow when I get to crank it, and a better review Tuesday night after practice.

So whadya think X? How's that thing hold up?

I have to admit, I abused this thing all night long last night, and it's still working fine. Absolutely no signs of any problems.

I set the Gain to about 9 o'clock. Low to 3 o'clock, and High all the way up in the fully clockwise position, which is about 5 o'clock. I only boost 800 Hz and 3.2k Hz on the graphic eq to help cut through the mix. I have the Vibe control switched off. I have the Master volume all most all the way up at 3 o'clock.

As loud as I had it, the Clip light next to the Master knob was flashing all night, but it didn't sound bad. It sounded clean but compressed. The amp has a built in (non adjustable) limiter circuit that I assume was working overtime.

I'd like to be able to back off the Master knob, so tomorrow night, I'm going to put the cab in the corner of the room, and on a guitar amp stand that will angle the cab up. I think this will do the trick.

I plan to do a little experiment tomorrow night to see if my little Promethean is powering my HX115 cab to it's loudest potential. I'm going to take my Behringer EP2500 along with me. I'll run the Promethean's Line Out into one channel of the EP2500, and see if there is any noticeable difference in volume. This should be interesting.

SUMMARY: So far, I dig it! It's tiny and very light weight. It doesn't get even the slightest bit hot after hours of abuse. Most importantly, it was very easy for me to get a tone that I liked. It's only rated at 250 watts at 8 ohm, but with my single 15", eight ohm cab, it puts out decent volume at practice. I do have a LOUD drummer, and my guitar player uses a MESA 4x12 angled cab with a Rivera 2x12 stacked on top of it. It's not exactly easy to keep up in the volume war.

Stayed tuned....

Good to see you guys are enjoying your amps too, we've been having fun with ours! - The P5210 combo sounds damn wicked as an acoustic bass amp as well....i'm having so much fun with these ones :bassist:

Cool X-Ray, thanks,

Damn dude, you like that tone BRRRIGHTTTTT!:)

I'm wondering if you tweaked your gain up a tad more you could lose some of that extreme EQ on the high and low.

Thanks for the good review. And oof, sorry about that guitar rig :rollno:.

Man, that is a RIDICULOUS amount of volume your guitar player is putting out. For a rehearsal? Really? Who does he think he is? Superstars don't use a 6x12 rig for rehearsals...

Guitard players.... Yeesh. :D

Well......I didn't get a chance to use the EP2500 as a basis for comparison. My singer was feeling sick, so practice got cut short. I might get to do the comparison on Sunday night. If not, then for sure next Tuesday.
