Ibanez Promethean

I'm actually partial to all things CAR and darker reds. This is a darker red and I don't find it too strong a color in any room you'd use it in. However, in STORE lighting, I can imagine it being too much.

Haha, if you like dark red then you'll love this unit!

It could have been the store lighting, but to me it was dark but yet loud red. Sounded great, however, personally I'm unsure of the color

I'm excited now. I'm getting mine on Wednesday (or at least, I better!). I'll have it for full band practice, too, so we'll see how it holds up to two guitarists and a drummer going through a pair of Bag End 1x15s.

I think this thing uses hybrid 1/4+Speak Ons for the output, but I could be wrong.

DKB -

I'd be very curious to know what the Promethean sounds most like in the 'Vintage' mode - I'd like to know if it is capable of Massive Pants Flappage, which would make it a winner in my book. I suspect the 'Modern' mode will sound very much like their SW series, which I own the 35 and the 100 plus extension 15 cabinet in. As much as I like them, I have to really fight to get (what to me) is a good deep bass-sounding tone sometimes. Any input you have on that would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Just so everyone knows, I got mine yesterday literally in time for band practice. I couldn't really tell if I liked it or not, but this thing got LOUD (may have been the cabs too). Although I think my bass was clipping it pretty easy. I'm going to have to play around with it some more.

On a side note, I always thought people were full of crap when they say they can fit whatever into their gig bag. They weren't joking! This thing fit (albeit very snuggly) into the front pocket of my Warwick gig bag. Convenient!

Tried the 1x10 combo today. Could get a wide variety of tones and for a 1x10 cab it put out plenty of volume for practice or small gig. The VIBE knob did not have as much effect as I expected. Very subtle.

Oh well I had mine for a week, and to be honest I just took it back today to Guitar Center to get a Markbass Little Mark III.

I'll just go over some pros and cons real quick, then give a more in depth review later.

Pros: Very light weight
Could fit in my gig bag pocket (I thought people were kidding about that kind of thing. They weren't)
Auxiliary in and headphone out jacks ON THE FRONT OF THE HEAD
Versatile EQing
Cheaper than MarkBass

Cons: I personally didn't feel like the tone was beefy enough
The power section took ten minutes at least to warm up (I'm not even kidding. Mine may have been defected, I dunno)

So yeah. Found a lot of good things about it, but I just didn't get the tone I wanted out of it.

I'm still working on my review, but it the power amp was taking 10 minutes then you had a defective unit. I have the 1x10 combo, so of course it's not super beefy (beefy for a 1x10 though). I'd wonder if there was something wrong with your particular amp. I wouldn't want to judge the line on a defective sample (not saying you are, I'm just saying...)

Thats what I'm thinking it is. My unit must have been defective, which I'll let it slide only because these things just came out so there might be some bugs in them.

But I think I'll be better off with Markbass. I just wish they had headphone outs, especially on the front of the head. That was a very nice feature.

It seems that with all of this new technology in these micro heads that there are still bugs to be worked out. Especially some of the reports on the voltage sensitivity...I would say at least 50% of my gigs have questionable power.

Still...I almost want to just order this amp...still searching to find "Thunder from a Lunchbox".

Finally got my review done. I was having some A/V difficulties which in the future should be better...

Anyway, it's a two part review, as there are a lot of features on this amp. And please be kind in terms of the playing - I'm just your average bass player like many of us here. Certainly not a pro!
