I really like the look of this premium SR1205EVNF.
I have always like the SR feel. Owned on in the 80s.
I am looking for a light small comfy easy to play five.
My 18mm 6 is one of the best instruments in the a world - an NYBW.
But I'd like a small less expensive 5 too.
BUT I NEVER found an SR that had good tone. Some even sound like cardboard. I am hoping the SR1205EVNF is different.

Tone will not be an issue. If you can deal with tight spacing, the bass will be awesome.
I have a 1200 SR, and in my house there are "hotspot" areas where you will get hum, every bass I've ever had has done it to some degree here. So it's a good place to test for the hum issue.
The 1200 SR has the least hum of any bass I've had here, which would include a number of basses from Washburn, Peavey, Spector, Schecter and Ibanez as well as Squier. If I am in one of the hot spots, and I keep the pickup balancer directly in the center detent position, I hear NO hum at all, unlike every other bass I've had in this place. If I move it, then I get some, while in a hot area.
So the two pickups seem to cancel each other out, and do it a lot better than anything else I've seen. So assuming mine isn't some freak, you really wouldn't have to worry about hum with one of these.
What he said. The tone on these is to die for. They may look great, but they sound even better.
I don't know what your talking about "cardboard" that doesn't even make sense. But if you're the kind of guy that likes that "classic" tone, most ibanez aren't for you, they're much more versatile than that. These nords definitely have a great tone and I would put them in any bass and use them for any style of music. Extremely versatile. But if you like 18mm, SR basses are not for you at 16.5mm. You might want to look for a prestige BTB or something like that, but they have barts.
And to those who are wondering who didn't catch it from the earlier post, what's the difference between the SR1200 and the SR1400, it's simply the top wood. The 1200 has ovangkol and the 1400 has maple. That is the only difference between them, other than the price with the 1400 being 50 bucks more.
Personally I found the ovangkol bass to look better to my eyes (opinion, subjective etc here you may feel differently) and I prefer a bit darker tone to the brighter so the 1200 was the natural choice for me personally. Not saying all of you would or should feel the same way or want the same thing or have the same taste (hope this is PC enough, I'm about to puke from PC overload, guess I'm just trying to avoid the flame war where some dude posts back man you suck maple is a billion times more than ovangkol and my Sadowsky is a trillion times your pathetic Ibanez toy and my wang is twice the size of yours too man!). You guys know how it goes, post something innocent and the holy war begins as someone feels obligated to defend his or her (or in the case of a crossdresser maybe his/her?) beliefs.....

Of course you don't hear hum with both pickups full, that's true even in unshielded basses.
I don't like there to be hum when I solo a pickup though. And whether you shield the bass or not, you'll still get the 60Hz hum if you have single coils and you solo one.
That's why I don't use single coil pickups.
On another note:
I still don't understand why string spacing is so important to people. I couldn't care less, personally. I can play with 16.5mm string spacing as easily as 19mm.

But the pics of the 1205 that Ibanez has on their site look nothing like the real color of the 1205, it's much darker, so when I saw one in person I was very surprised to see how different it looked. Not bad tho.I think you missed the point that this bass is the quietest one I've played around EMI.
As long as you aren't around a hotspot, I've found that I can solo a pickup and you don't get the hum. Around a hotspot you do, I would agree with you there, but if I avoid a hotspot, I don't get the hum even on one pickup. I think your fears are way overblown but I can't account for your taste, so it's probably just as well you give this one a pass. I mean if we are so inclined to feel something is very important, we'll feel that way regardless of the facts and likewise if we are inclined to not feel it's important, we'll feel that way regardless of the facts. And having real world actually having owned/played this bass, I consider that real world facts, but of course my opinion cuts in as does yours.
Man I'm getting so PC I am gonna be sick from it. Anyone else tired of the vanilla please let me kiss your behind so you don't hate my guts for having an opinion crap? I think the monitoring of our views like the minders in North Korea here is bringing out the snivelling side of me so I don't get more warnings for daring to have a freaking opinion. I'll probably get banned for saying this, but you know if I have to snivel my way through everything that's just as well. I'm sick of it. I feel like puking reading it. Can't blame any of you if you do too.

Even in unshielded basses, single coil hum can be quiet enough that it won't even be heard in a band setting. It's a little thing, I agree.
But I usually play in a quiet room by myself, and little things like that DRIVE ME CRAZY.
So yes, it's a personal thing with me.
I've noticed active basses tend to be pretty quiet even with single coils, so I have no doubt the SR1200/1400 is too.
There are a lot of really little minor things I don't like about the SR premiums which I would deal with if they were cheaper. But, they're out of my price range. If I was going to spend that kind of money on a bass, it'd have to basically be perfect.

curious about this bass heard the nords sound good. I'm looking for a new bass love ibanezs and in the past month tried the sr 500 and 700. Both basses sounded very metalicy. I have recently spent some time with the srt900 different pups but still kinda metalicy. all three sounded kinda rock bass ish, make sense. I'm looking for a bass where i can get a nice warm mellow tone out of. just curious if the 1200 is like the other srs or can it be warm and mellow and less rockish lol
Honestly, you can get any tone you want. These basses are very versatile and if you wanted a smooth, Jazz kind of sound, it is completely possible. Ibanez pickups and emg's are made more for a rock tone, but nordstrands are very strong in the areas you want them to be and have an even balance from the low strings to the high strings. By that I mean, you don't have an overly booming low B and the other strings fall short, it has a very even response on all strings and they come through very clear with any eq settings. There is even a bass boost/cut switch so that you can get a good clear jazz/ solo bass tone and switch to hold down the low end for more of a smooth warm sound. I leave my switch on, all the time, because i prefer that thick bottom with warm yet clear mids and highs. If you get the chance to play one before you buy, you will not be disappointed at all. It'll be like you just can't get your wallet out fast enough ha ha. I hope this helps
