Well, the bass knob mostly affects the very low frequencies. If you move the mid knob to affect low mids, it can certainly make your bass sound "bassier".

That's where the low end energy lives anyway. Most of the stuff below that is mud.

I played one of these today in a local music store. I was shocked to see nordys in it. I had no idea Ibanez made such a bass. Its the only Ibanez I have played that i like. The only draw back I think is the preamp. Anyone know what kind of pre is in it? Of course the local music store guys had no idea, which is the usual. That would be something that would definitely need to be upgraded if I were to get one. Other than that i thought it played great.

It's an Ibanez stock pre. Ibanez pres are not very popular.

Anybody done any testing on a sound board? I play with a small band but also for church of about 700-800. We don't have the cleanest A/C and I'm a bit worried about hum from the BS pups. My old SR405 even had a bit of noise in it so I'm wondering how folks have faired with hum. I just bought the SR1200 as I wanted the warmer tone. We'll see how it goes. ~ Vince

Just to mension, I have an 1994 SR 1300PM , but I pick off the AFR´s and the circuit to put JOE BARDEN Pick-ups P/J...
It´s sounding amazing to me. Warm and powerfull passive tone.

I´m a huge SR fan, and the SR500xe is my Holy Grail. But, as everybody said, it´s really overpriced. Here in Brazil it goes even worse...

There´s a guy selling a 1405e for a good price, but I have some doubts. Can you figure out some REAL difference between the work of the Premium factory in INdonesia and the the J-Team in Japan? And read that the bass sounds and look amazing, but what about the details, the finish? I suppose that with a $2.000bucks Prestige you´ll have no issues about the "little things" on the bass... so, the guys from Indonesia works so well like the japanese guys?

The quality of the premium line is just as good as the japan models. I have 15 ibanez SR basses including an SR1305, SR1306, SR1500, and many more.. All of which were made in the Japan factory. The main differences, and might i add that they are very minute, are: the japan bodies have a very tapered shape at the sides that rounds almost to the pickups. The Premium, has the same taper at the sides, but the front face is slightly more flat. The neck thickness on a 5 string japan model is around 22 or 23mm at the 12th fret, the premium is 23 or 24mm at 12, and the curvature of the neck is just slightly different, more flat in the middle than the fuji models. As for the finish it appears to be a hand rubbed oil finish, that is just the same as the fuji basses, meaning that there is still a little bit of texture from the wood grain. I hope this helps and feel free to ask any more questions. And just to let you know, the electronics on this bass are VERY strong so i usually roll off my volume and the treble just slightly, set the mids at just more than half way, and the bass about the same as the mids.

I have good action on my SR1405, but i'll be ordering a 4-string version of your bass as well as an SR1206 here soon. i'll let ya know if i have any issues with either of them.

Yes...this one is being returned.

Definitely a good idea to check these basses well prior to leaving the store i.e. trying a better set-up right there and intonation

Make sure you can return if you find problems!

One shouldn't buy one of these and then find it needs a fret-leveling to be right. Ibanez's promotion of the Premium line is that you are getting Presitge quality...my Prestige basses' fretwork is excellent.

My 1405 is perfect. You probably just got a fluke man. I have a problem with my Ibanez GVB36, but another guy that has one says his is perfect. It just happens sometimes. Sorry that's how's yours turned out, i wish you better luck in the future.

I truly like the bass...its ergonomics, sound, feel...and you've inspired me to try others, but as written...I'll try setting-up the bass in the store and check if it can be intonated prior to purchase.

I own a 25th Anniversary 5 string SR7XXV premium. The fret work is top notch. The action is amazing. No problems with mine.
