Ibanez SRFF805 sound issue...

Well, this bass is less than a year old. If I sell it, I take a huge loss ($300-$400), then buy another bass in the $1000 range. Honestly I will prob never buy another Ibanez Bass. I own two and have had problems with both. Plus that SRMS805 prob uses most of the junk electronics Ibanez puts in their basses. I don’t know the difference between Bartolini BH1 and BH2...I thinking it may be easier to just do an electronics swap since I love the feel and playability of the bass, just hate the electronics...

I own one previously, and I let it go with USD480.

Suggest you walk in GC to try SRMS. The most improve thing than SRFF are pickup Tone quality and string to string tone balance, plus the wood are look much nicer and elegant.

I prob won’t buy another Ibanez bass. I have had issues with both Ibanez basses I own. Their customer service sucks and nobody wants to take ownership for defective parts. I also contacted Bartonlini to see if there was a way to test the pickups and they told me they never heard of an Ibanez SRFF805 and that I need to take up my matter with Ibanez. The bass is basically junk at this point.. my last hope is to gut the electronic cavity, replace the pickups and EQ with Nordstrand setup and replace all the pots and switches.

You say Ibanez electronics suck. Hmm. Well, there are thousands of owners of premium series SR basses with that same internal curcuit that love them and have no problems. I get it; your bass has a problem. You gave the repair a shot with no luck, so why not just get a pro to fix it? You'll take a huge loss if you sell it as is, as I assume you would share the problem with the store or buyer.

I never said their electronics suck. I said their customer service sucks. That’s great that many people got lucky, I did not. I have two Ibanez basses and had different problems with both. Track record not looking good. I did take it to an Authorized Ibanez warranty establishment.. they checked everything and said it could only be the EQ module. I replaced the module, the only thing it did was make my wallet thinner. Prob can’t sell it as is. Who is gonna buy that. Best thing at this point is to gut all electronics and start over since no one can fix it.

Haha two or three time in this thread I mentioned that I took it to a place that has been an Authorized Ibanez repair center for 15 plus years. They couldn’t find anything besides maybe an eq module that didnt solve the issue.

I'd say the issue is with their QC, not necessarily their CS... I'm not sure if it's the same with their premium line, or not.

Totally up to you to pursue it, of course.

As I mentioned, my SR805 is straight active... after I repaired Ibanez's QC issue, I started looking into whether a mod could provide me with a passive option. I came up with nothing, other than gutting it and installing a new pre, along with prewired components... I think it was about $100, and my time of course.

Maybe, someday...

Things like this drive me crazy... if I can't fix it, I would do everything in my power to ensure the manufacturer does. Especially, if it's still in warranty. I ordered it from Sweetwater, too, and there were extremely helpful with the problems I was experiencing.

I know members have isolated the pickup(s) by wiring then directly to the instrument jack. While disconnected, you could get an ohm measurement from each pickup, ensuring they are within tolerance.

Really surprised it wasn't the EQ module, especially with the bass working for quite awhile, and then acting up, all of a sudden.

Honestly if it’s not the eq or the pickups, what could it be. I feel like testing the pickups at this point is useless only cause I don’t see how it could be anything else, so I have to replace the pickups anyway. If I’m gonna go thru the trouble of disconnecting the pickups and soldiering them to the jack, I might as well just replace them. As far as Ibanez takin responsibility or fixing it, they want no parts. No warranty. Matt from Hoshino has been tryin to help me, but he can only sell me parts. Frankly, I’m not excited about buying any more cheap Ibanez parts. Just about every pot, jack and random part on both my Ibanez basses needs replaced. They are all scratchy sounding. They are both less than 2 years old and hardly get used. I have guitars 20 years old with better electronics..
