Ibanez SRFF805 sound issue...

I called the closest Athorized Ibanez warranty placed to me (an hour away) and this guy told me He quit servicing Ibanez basses because Ibanez does not respond to him and he can not get bass parts from them. Haha it keeps getting better...
Ibanez emails me back whenever I ask them something. It takes like a week or so. But they do get back to you. I've talked to them about parts, warranties, products, and a couple other things. Just give it a little bit.

Try this guy at Ibanez - he's the guy that helped me and several other TB members that had the defective bridges on 2012 models. He got back to me right away, and fixed me right up. I was 5 years past the 1 year warranty, and he sent a new 5-string bridge because of the issue with cheap metal used on 2012 bridges. Good luck, and let us know what happens. We're all interested.

So no warranty.. but the guy from hoshino hooked me up with the eq module for $12. Prob is the new one has 6 plug spots. The old has 5. The options for the last one are BEQ3 or VM3 OUT. Does anyone know what either mean and which I should use? Wish they sent a diagram or posted one on their website..I the pic the old preamp is on top. Not sure which 3 pin plug on the far left to use. ( the 6 pin is there, just left it out to take pic)

The BEQ3 (new) has the same pinout designates as the original...

Use a continuity meter and find the one that is connected to the same points as the original. Also possible is that they are identical. Even if you guess incorrectly, I would guess that it wouldn't harm anything if you tried both. Use the meter if you want to be sure, however.

Ok, I’ll check it with a meter and see if they differ at all. I’m to afraid of trial and error just in case it could potentially cause an error since I’m tryin to troubleshoot an issue already. Thanks for the suggestion tho...

Your contact at Ibanez... I'd put it on him/her to make the call. They sent the part... since it wasn't an exact match, put the onus on them to provide proper hookup.

So here’s an update for everyone.. I put the new eq module in the bass, per instructions from Ibanez, and it didn’t fix anything. I love this bass, hate the sound. Would it be easy to swap out pickup and eq for something totally different? Not sure how bass pickups match up size wise...I was thinking or Nordstrand fat stack 5 pickups. Not sure if I need an eq or if I can just run it passive with tone and volume knobs.. any input would be appreciated...

I've had a weird problem with my active Carvin once, that has both active pickups and electronics with no bypass option. Inserting the 1/4" jack led to a bad signal quality, muffled highs and missing volume.
When I wiggled it about a bit, it came back to life - until I wiggled some more and it was muffled again.
I know that these usually don't fail, but replacing the Jack fixed the problem.

How about sell it and get the new SRMS805?
Well, this bass is less than a year old. If I sell it, I take a huge loss ($300-$400), then buy another bass in the $1000 range. Honestly I will prob never buy another Ibanez Bass. I own two and have had problems with both. Plus that SRMS805 prob uses most of the junk electronics Ibanez puts in their basses. I don’t know the difference between Bartolini BH1 and BH2...I thinking it may be easier to just do an electronics swap since I love the feel and playability of the bass, just hate the electronics...

Well this has a passive/active bypass..not sure if that makes a difference.. plus I have tried to wiggle the jack to see if that was an issue. Nothing found there. The neg battery wire to the jack was almost broke, I re-soldiered that, but it didn’t fix the issue. I’m at a loss with this damn bass...
