Ibanez stigma... is it just me?

Sounds like a grounding issue. Whoever you had look at it should check that again.

Mediocre??? Are you kidding me? The Prestige models are just as good as many other highly acclaimed makes, usually at a lower price. Even the mid levels are excellent. If some one wants a chrome ladened, boat paddle looking Fender, Lakeland or Musicman so be it. But Ibanez makes great basses . . . period.

Congrats. I’ve got the same bass in the “Royal Violet” finish. Love it.

My Roadstar II was the instrument that introduced me to the Ibanez brand a quarter of a century ago. Since then, I’ve purchased two more Ibanez basses: an EDB605 and an SR406. The SR406 was eventually liberated when I finally discovered that I had no real use for a 6-string bass, but it was a beautifully-crafted instrument that met all of my expectations for quality. The EDB605 remains in my herd — along with several Fenders, and even a couple of Deans (another highly-stigmatized brand). I can envision adding another Ibanez at some point in the future — just haven’t found anything yet that I really want to take home.

So, to the OP, I say: no, it’s not just you. As you pointed out, different brands carry different stigmas, for many different reasons. Which is perhaps why I get such a kick out of reading the many Rondo/SX threads here. Play what you like. If that’s not an Ibanez, it’s okay.

I used to own a btb 456.


great bass, played like butter.

The tone was not the most unique though.


I just always felt that ibanez lacked a bit of soul. The Musician and the BTB are FANTASTIC basses that sound and play great.


But i always feel that their other stuff feels like something that is just right off a production line. I don't know maybe its the fact that they have those heavy poly finishes that make me feel that they are more a tool then an instrument. I always have felt that they were a bit sterile.

I think the "mediocre" comment was directed at some of the entry level stuff, but regardless, you are 100% correct. Hypersensitivity and lack of tact is where people take the train off the rails. That's where "IMO" helps a bunch...

I have a chrome ladened boat paddle looking Ibanez ATK 700, and an Ibanez ATK750Koa!!
I love them both, and both are built and sound better than basses costing 2-3 times as much.

Matter of fact... forget the money, they are great basses period!

I use Ibanez AGB 200s, yes i have two of the, one in brown and one in white.
They both draw interest wherever i go, especially the white one.

I have no problems with Ibanez but i do have a long memory.
I remember late 70/80s when U.S.A. manufacturers like Fender and Gibson gave us in Europe nothing for our money.

Compare a U.S precision, no case £850+ or and Aria, or Ibanez, with actives for £300 inc case. Even the Westone Thunder one, came with a case, brass fittings for £160.
Basses like the Ibanez musician or the Aria SB1000, even the Yamaha BB1200 were sought after instruments that made U.S. companies sit up and take notice of what they are offering to Europe as "quality instruments".

Yes time move on and quality is an issue, but that is the same with any company. I find that with most companies if you raise any concerns with them they will address them......if you get your concerns to the right person. That is not always the first or second person you speak to, but someone who has a stake in the outcome.
Ibanez...proud to us them and long may it be so.

Ibanez has such a selection of basses at every price point that it would take a mighty picky person not to be able to find one they like. Short scales, 34", 35" affordable 6 strings, how can you go wrong? Just wish they would make a SR quality 32". Seems to me that a AEB owner like myself would be able to flow back and forth without adjusting to fret spacing and such.

Hey Thand - nice solo dude. Nice sounding bass ... chrome & all! Yeah I was a little out of line with the chrome, boat paddle thing. Sorry to all you out there that play one. Nothing against them. I get aggressive sometimes defending Ibby's from unjustifed remarks.
