ID Help

I got this bass on a trade. The neck is definately a Fender MIM Precision Special, but the body is most certainly not. I would love some help trying to ID the body to know what I have.

Fender ID numbers this neck to be made sometime between 2003 and 2004, but the body has me stumped. It came with some sort of reissue annodized guard with a cut out for a truss rod, a place for a thumb rest and holes for the P-p'up cover.

I don't really know anything about fenders, but could the 053199 in the neck pocket be the date the body was made? that might be something to look into.

That is what I thought. Something in the May 31, 1999 type thing. However, that small partial hole where a thumb rest should be in the body. That is the strange thing. It is finished, so it is not an add on or after the fact kind of thing. I don't know if there should have been a switch or something that would go there. There is no wire tunnel to it.

That's just a router mounting/centering hole...many Fenders of the era have them. ***not that that makes this body authentic or not.

I have read where sometimes MIM's will use different years of necks and bodies?? If so, could this be a correct MIM Precision Special with a 2003 Neck and 1999 body?

I have a P Bass Special from 2002 and it does not have any router hole in the body.

I agree. I have a 1999 P Special (I am the original owner) and there is no route hole like on this one.

I recently ripped apart a MIM Jazz in need of a rehab and it had an identical "hole"- and I'm sure the bass was an intact MIM Jazz.

I recall mention that the 'hole' underneath the PG on a P-body was indicative on MIM Fenders.

And the serial number? Does it look like it would be Fender MIM?

Looks like a Frankenbass Charvel Jackson body with a MIM neck

Hmm, I get the impression that this is really just a MIM Precision Special that has a body from 1 year and the neck of another and the electronics of who knows what
