ID these songs

Should have guessed that that's what you meant! I was fooled by the fact that the first Beatles tune with a similar name that came to mind was And I Love Her, which also starts on the ii.

About band member goofiness: been there! A drummer in a hobby band I played with from time to time would ask us to learn some new song to play through for fun every couple of months or so. "It's easy!," he'd say.

He'd send a YouTube link around, and it was invariably something with ridiculously complicated signature guitar and/or keyboard parts. ("Hey, guys! Let's do Martha My Dear next week!")

We finally figured out that "It's easy!" meant he'd had no trouble learning the drum part.

For him, the Venn diagram of cluelessness would have the "Feeble grasp of music theory" circle overlapping with the "I don't listen to songs or practice them between rehearsals because I can only learn when I'm playing with the band" circle.

To refresh your memory, this is Martha My Dear, picked by the drummer because it would so easy for the rest of us to learn:

I in no way wanna trash Ringo because i think he's greatly underrated by many. But yeah, totally. "Really easy tune!" often means, "I had to go Boom-Cha along with Ringo for 2 minutes 30 seconds. Good luck figuring out the amazing harmonic complexity on your instruments!" :roflmao:

How do you know that?

Because anytime someones second hand telling of a band experience comes up on TB someone inevitably says they must be too young, too old, too inexperienced, too experienced and jaded, and that inevitably they're out. Heck I posted musing about how the cover band fellas I'm playing with are excited and fresh to doing all this (which was an interesting experience like looking at myself 10 years ago), and I think in the first 4 posts someone said "You're in the wrong band". Ranks right up there with "I won't leave the house for any less than $100" as eye roll worthy to the point of being a cliche. Of course, not before someone makes a very original and funny joke about firing the drummer first.

That said, it is definitely still a good idea to be specific when designating covers/songs to learn. The song, artist, version if there's any variation, and (something I recently had to have a discussion about) if the singer has asked that it be done in a different key. To that last point, preferably finding that out before having learned the songs.
