ID This Bad A*$ Ric Copy!

I think the output jack plate will be the most helpful thing to identify this with. According to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

"Ibanez and Univox copies have their output jacks labeled Mono and Stereosound."

Yours isn't labeled Mono though, but that doesn't necessarily elminate one of those companies. How many truss rods does it have?

1 truss rod.

I'm shocked! Most basses get identified in 14.6 seconds or less here on TB! :smug: Ibanez maybe?? ---> Invalid Link Removed

The only Ibanez Ric copies I have seen were all bolt necks. The Univox I sold was a set neck, but had an RW fretboard as did the Ibanez. What is throwing me is the checkered binding, the Univox did not have that and I do not recall if the Ibanez did or not?

Everyone keeps mentioning the trussrod cover, keep in mind those can be switched! :hiding:

I really cant find anything that is the exact same. I had an Ibanez Ric copy. It was a bolt on and had one input. The inlays are not the same as Ibanez either.

All the other stuff is pretty close to every Greco that comes up. The tuners are a bit different. Some of the wood color may be off.

Hi.

Id be guessing its a matsumoku (sp?!).. or one of the many brands they manufactured for.

I had one branded as 'Heerby', it was better than my 4003, it sounded phenomenal..

Actually.. I'd be certain its a Heerby due to the maple board and the pickguard.. Only difference mine had though was USA Grover 'wavy' tuners.

Check the neck pickup, its it a '6 pole' underneath?

+1^

Exept for the stereo output, My Herby Custom Bass looks almost identical.
Not counting the DIY hedstock on mine obviously ;).

As far as I know, Herby first became Heerby, which in turn became Ibanez.

A few measurements from mine:

Checker raster 1.86mm
Checker thickness 1.25mm
Solid binding thickness 1.25mm
Pickguard thickness 3.12mm
Center block width 56mm
Center stripe width 8.3mm
FB width nut end 42.7mm
FB width bridge end 57.5mm
Scale 843mm / 33.189"
20 frets

Body wings are 2 piece made from 17.2mm thick slabs.
Binding doesn't extend to the center block.
Fretboard is raised with a 3.3mm thick maple laminate.

Sam

and the mystery continues! Who made this bass?!?!?

Actually I think I got my manufacturers mixed up, I think the heerbys were made by kasuga, their basses were rebadged and sold in Europe, America etc under a whole heap of different brands.. That's what I'm almost certain you have, it's almost identical to the one I had (tuners are thr only difference).

I'm on a phone so can't easily search stuff, but if you search for heerby on this forum my bass will come up.
