That, IMHO, is one HIDEOUS looking P Bass
- I wonder how long it will before the Fender Custom Shop make a replica

Winning a Grammy is pretty big deal, I am sure that if a Grammy award nominated singer contacted you about playing bass you would sit up and take notice, perhaps even call your friends and say something like "I just got a call from a Grammy nominated singer about being their bass player!" If you think it's no big deal, go win one yourself and tell me how easy it was.

The logic here is that being disrespcetful of the guys obvious tallent, and being oblivious to his contributions, even after explained to you, seems rather trollish.
You could have simply said something like "I'm not a fan of that type of playing" or "I've never heard of the guy" and I'm sure no one would be bothered by that, but that's not the path that you chose.
Gatton also had a reputation for modifying the daylights out of his instruments, so this bass should come as no shock to anyone familar with him.
The point was not in need of addressing, but since you asked...smdc still hasn't addressed the point several posters have made that if you asked the average person on the street who Jaco Pastorius and John Entwistle were or who Pino Palladino or Victor Wooten are, they wouldn't know either.
"Disrespectful of talent"??? Could you elaborate on that?
His "contributions" were not adequately explained. Or, perhaps, his "contributions" were explained and were actually found by me to be rather insignificant by any reasonable standard.
I am a fan of that type of playing when done tastefully. I have heard of the guy. As I mentioned earlier, I've heard his music. That's precisely why I don't like Gatton.
Gatton is an icon of a niche group. Which - back to my original point - doesn't really qualify him as a "celebrity".

That's pretty disrespectful of a guy who's tallents are clearly far beyond the vast majority of players, both proffesional and amateur alike.Being the 63rd greatest guitar player according to *oof* Rolling Stone is kinda like, well... that and a buck-fitty will get you a cup of coffee.
The only people who know who Danny Gatton was are, for the most part, dad blues guitar player types. Sorry, but that doesn't get you on the A-list. Or B-list. Or C-list.
Specifically. I mean, if it's just being a good player, then that's not really much of a contribution.

oof!!!!
Generalizations are called that because the statements in question are generally true. Here ya go...
That's pretty disrespectful of a guy who's tallents are clearly far beyond the vast majority of players, both proffesional and amateur alike.
It's also a gross and ill thought out generalization of the people who appreciate Gattons contributions.
Nothing has been lost on me. He was a player's player. I suspect the problem is that you're easily impressed. His "contributions" aren't all that noteworthy. So he garnered a lot of high profile admirers. So what? Name a Danny Gatton song.I and others have explaind that his particular style didn't really exist untill Gatton put all the parts together. Even a list of high profile players listed as fans of his tallent and playing seems lost on you.
Granted you may not like it, nor appreciate it, but the contributions have been noted, and you chose to ignore that.
By what "reasonable standard" do we need to meet for your extremely high standards of acceptable contributions to music in general? I guess being a groundbreaking inovator in that particular style... one that has been an inspiration to quite a few notable, and non notable players doesn't meet your high standards.
Not being a household name doesn't mean one wasn't an important musical figure. How many people that you ask randomly on a street would know who James Jamerson is? Or even Geezer Butler? Or Buddy Rich?
I'm cool with the Foo Fighters and The White Stripes.
What catagory was your band not nominated in?
(smart allek way of asking what kind of music you find acceptable, as there's not much of a clue from your profile)
