A (low level)celebrity-owned novelty instrument. It has been butchered.
Danny Gatton made a minor impact on a very tiny segment of the population. 99.9999% of the population in this country have never heard of him. 98% of musicians have never heard of him.QUOTE]
I had no idea such stats where available..thanks
"Gatton was ranked 63rd on Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time in 2003"
ya, that's pretty low-level

You're welcome. Feel free to test those stats by asking passersby.
Quick! Who were the other 62 in front of him!!??
Being the 63rd greatest guitar player according to *oof* Rolling Stone is kinda like, well... that and a buck-fitty will get you a cup of coffee.
The only people who know who Danny Gatton was are, for the most part, dad blues guitar player types. Sorry, but that doesn't get you on the A-list. Or B-list. Or C-list.
Just curious..have you ever heard any of Danny Gatton's music?
I was being kind calling him a "low level celebrity". In reality, he's not a celebrity at all. Danny Gatton made a minor impact on a very tiny segment of the population. 99.9999% of the population in this country have never heard of him. 98% of musicians have never heard of him.
Gifted? I guess. Not my cup of tea by a longshot, but whatever. There are thousands of gifted players floating around. There are also dozens of gifted guitar players who died tragic deaths. When it comes to "talented musicians who die tragic deaths", Gatton wasn't the first and won't be the last.
Please stop. You're being obnoxious.
Oooookay. The guy was amazing. He was nominated for a grammy, he's shared the stage with guys like Clapton
and Roy Buchanan, and he gets name dropped by dudes like Les Paul as one of the greatest guitar players of all time. 63rd best guitar player in Rolling Stone and you're not impressed? There have been MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of guitar players since the electric guitar's invention and he made number 63. His mix of banjo style "chicken pickin'" guitar playing a la Scotty Moore mixed with jazz and rockabilly was unlike anybody else. This guy was an innovator.
As to his celebrity status, I'd ask you to do a quick experiment- you're a bassplayer; go out on the street and ask the first ten people you meet who Jaco Pastorius is and I'll bet you're 0 for 10. Ask the next 20 who Victor Wooten is; probably 0 for 20; etc., etc. Just becasue the public doesn't know them, that doesn't mean that musicians don't know who they are, or that they aren't influential. By your logic, the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus are currently the most relevant, influential music in the world . If that were true, I'd consider never playing again. The reality, however, is that pop music fades, while Gatton's contributions are timeless.

Winning a Grammy doesn't mean a lot. Actually it doesn't mean anything.
What were Danny Gatton's contributions? Specifically. I mean, if it's just being a good player, then that's not really much of a contribution.
