if you could have 10 and ONLY 10 basses...

1. Skjold Custom Exotic 5 (already have)
2. Skjold Fretless Lion's Pride 5 (on order)
3. Skjold David Dyson 5 (maybe next year)
4. Skjold Custom Exotic Whale Back 5
5. Skjold Custom Exotic 6
6. Skjold Fretless Custom Exotic 6
7. Skjold Fretless David Dyson 5
8. Skjold Custom Exotic 5 w/ Nordstrands & Mike Pope Pre (just to mix it up)
9. Fodera Matt Garrison 5
0. Tacoma Thunderchief 5

ok here we go...

1- 6 string Fodera Emperor (single cut)
2- 5 String Fodera NYC Empire (in quilt Green w/ maple board)
3- 5 string Sadowsky P bass (seafoam green w/ MOP PG black hard ware)
4- 5 String Eminence EUB
5- 6 string Ritter Roya
6- 6 String semi hollow Modulus Quantum
7- 6 string Fodera Monarch
8- 7 String Low End Jazz
9- 6 string Zon Custom Fretless (a'la Manring)
10-5 string KSD jazz (natural w/ maple blocks)

I think I could get the tone I want in there somewhere :bassist:

here we go:

1- My Sadowsky NYC Vintage 4 (ash/maple/SC pickups)
2- My EB MM StingRay (ash/maple)
3- Sadowsky NYC Vintage 4 fretless
4- '76-78 MM StingRay (natural/maple)
5- '62-64 Fender Jazz (CAR/matrching headstock)
6- '57 Fender P-Bass (ash/maple with rounds)
7- '62-64 Fender P-Bass (alder/rosewood with flats)
8- Vintage Danelectro LongHorn
9- Guild Starfire fretless bass
10- I play only 4 string basses but with 10, the last one would be a five string, let's say a Sadowsky NYC Vintage 5.

I have never played basses 5 to 10, but I sure like those classic tones and the way they increase in value each year.

This thread is evil. It must be punished.

The first time I saw this thread, I owned 1 bass. 10 basses?, I thought. Why those folks are swimming in the deep end of a pool with no water. Tonight however, I find I now own 9 basses, and there's a Curbow that's been calling.

Obviously, this thread has infected me with its insideous meme. It's too late for me, I know that now. But I've notified the moderators about this most dangerous and evil thread so that others will not suffer my fate.

my work here is done :smug:

Already owned and not going anywhere:

Sadowsky P5
Benavente 51-5
Fender Roscoe Beck 5

On the wish list:

Darrin Huff Z5 (ordered and paid for but still waiting...)
MTD 535 (owned one, wish I didn't have to sell it)
Warwick Streamer Stage 1 5 (ditto)
Reverend Brad Houser 5
Sadowsky Metro P5 (no one said the bass had to exist)
Music Man Stingray wide-5 (ditto)
Music Man Sabre wide-5 (ditto ditto)

1.) Birdsong cortofusion prototype - walnut body, single neck humbucker. I've had it less than a month and it's what I wanted for 7 years, so it'd be stupid to leave it off the list.
2.) a Birdsong cortofusion in poplar w/tortoise pickguard and single bridge pickup.
3.) walnut fretless Cortofusion w/ebony stringer
4.) at least one other Birdsong Cortobass
5.) Benavente Vintage Vortex 4 - swamp ash
6.) Ric 4001 or 4003
7.) an acoustic - probably a Breedlove
8.) This Conklin - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
9.) a decent Jazz - probably Fender, but not necessarily.
10.) an 8-string of some kind, preferably on a short scale neck.

Cort XT33 (a 33-fret Curbow)
Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass
MTD Kingston (Black on black with a hint of maple....)
Fender Zone 4-String
Sandberg PM4
Jackson Kelly Bass
Ken Lawrence Brase 5

And the final two that have never been made:

A 36 Fret Conklin 4-String
And finally....
MIM/MIA/CIJ 24-FRET PRECISION BASS...NO ONE HAS EVER CONCEIVED IT!

I only need 5

1. rickenbacker 4003 (either black or fireglow finishes)
2. fender precision (white with black gaurd and maple fretboard)
3. fender jazz (black with tort gaurd and rosewood fretboard)
4. wal mach 2 (mahogany body)
5. musicman sterling (single humbucker, trans teal finish, black gaurd and rosewood fretboard)

1.) Dingwall Prima Artist + 5 string with Z2 type PUP arrangement w/Northern Ash body,
2.) Skjold Custom 5 w/Northern Ash (or maybe Mahogany) body,
3.) Sadowsky PJ5 (rev P),
4.) Sadowsky Modern 5,
5.) Modulus Q5 w/wide satin neck and Bart Quad-coil PUPs,
6.) Rob Allen Deep 5,
7.) Brubaker Custom 5 w/Curly Maple body and Bart Quad-coil PUPs,
8.) Fender Roscoe Beck V w/roundwounds,
9.) Fender Roscoe Beck V w/flatwounds),
10.) Nordstrand 5 with a reverse 'P' neck PUP and a dual coil at the bridge (semi-neo-Roscoe Beck type controls, but with an Audere 3BZ preamp and active/passive switch).

Well, I'd also like to try out a Jerzy Drozd and a Ritter.

you can have more than 10, of course, i'm just thinking that a lot of folks, if they could have anything they wanted, realisitically would end up with about 10.

of course, with my wedding bass and this pending potential ebay score, my conklin total will be up to 11, but who's counting ;) :D

If I could have any amount, I'd still be pulling out builders and models and vintage things ....going strong over 50!

Shoot....I have over ten now. ....and I "need" more. An exchange I had with James Hart today got me to the Conklin site. I'd been there before but all of a sudden today, I got GAS. And I just bought a bass two days ago!
