I own an early 80's BB1000s and can appreciate your choice
Yeah, I love my 76 BB800 and I'm guessing the 1200 resonates a little better w/ the neck through and it's a real cool looking bass as well. Plus a brand new one wouldn't have crappy tuners.

i currently own 25 basses, but if i had to reduce it down to just one, it would be a p bass, and this one in particular (original foam green 1962) that i bought from its original owner in 1975. it has been the best bass out of the 150-200 basses that i've owned since 1966.
If I could only have 2 basses it would probably be my 64 NOS CS jazz and my Stingray 5.

I was looking for that One Bass to Rule Them All...and I just found it: Roscoe Century Standard IV.
Since buying it I won't even look at my other basses. It does it all for me; awesome tone, super fast neck, super low action, light weight body, well built, and looks good too.

I currently own only one bass.. and it does all I need for the moment. Just a Geddy Lee Jazz.. yep. I know.. I'm makin' thousands on a $500 bass.
I've sold off all my extraneous gear and it's left me with these four basses (and a Takamine acoustic bass):
I've actually traded the Deluxe Jazz for a 75 RI and that spot may rotate but the others are staying put. P5 with flats, my modern jazz flavored Stammie and the fretless. I'd love to have a hollowbody and a Stingray but I really like limiting myself to four basses. It gives a nice selection of tones without being excessive.
If I had to choose just one? My favorite is the fretless Stambaugh but I'd venture that a Jazz bass would generally be the most versatile instrument.
