Ya know, I've got 4 basses...3 of which have P's...a p/j, a dual p, and a reverse p...my other bass is an eb-3... Sorry, but not sorry...I'm gonna go with the eb-3.... Love that Gibby sound... even if it's an Epiphone, it does a pretty good impression of it

Assuming that many would toss a coin between a Jazz - Precision bass, here is my opinion on the matter: Precision vs Jazz Bass .

Summary:

• Opinion 1: I would pick the J-Bass. It can approach the P-bass territory convincingly and do much more, but there are many J-Bass tones that the P-Bass can't approach.
• Opinion 2: I would pick the P-Bass. It fulfills the main role of the bass guitar (subjectively) better in most of the musical styles that I play often. For soloing, I can use additional pedals to add an octave-up or color the sound.

In practice, I lean towards the J-Bass as a desert island instrument.

Thanks, guys. That was interesting. The "P Bass" score mostly varied between 42-45% throughout the poll. The early posts were overwhelmingly pro P bass, suggesting that the P bass fan club was out hunting early.

Imperfect though the methodology was, I do think it's fair to say that lots of people here like P basses.

IF I were going to have a Precision as 'the only bass from now on', I'd have it w/EMG's with a volume and their EXP control in place of the tone control, wired up 18v. Once I get tired of the zen-like simplicity, I'd add a EMG J later and retrofit a side jack and BTC Control layout.

But IF I'm buying my last one, for me it's a no-brainer: Neckthru Stingray Five, preferably with an ebony fingerboard if available. Strong, stable, cuts through if required, and for me it's everything I need and lacks nothing. Either in black on black, or white with a matching headstock.
