Tech 21 VT DI....in a close second are the Darkglass VMT DI or Ampeg SCR-DI....

I like the ability to have the tone I like with an option of running directly to the board or to an amp.

I played for a few years with only one pedal. It was a Sansamp BDDI. I still have it and use it in my board.
But now, if I had to choose, I'd probably go with a B7K.

I know this is two, but it's two separate situations in which I have separate gear. Recording would definitely be my MXR M81 Bass Preamp, which is pretty awesome for recording my bass tracks (I haven't mess with it with my live rig and I really don't intend to right now,) and live would be a chorus pedal (I have a Boss one, but more than willing to try another brand) because that's integrated to my live sound. I kind of have that post punk Joy Division/The Cure thing going on there stylistically.

I'd choose something that I was able to get a cleanish boost,nice o.d. all the way up to full blown fuzz. I'm sure there's something like that. I just don't know what it is

I love all my pedals equally of course, but if forced to strip down I'd still want distortion, so Pigtronix Disnortion. Never seen evidence that anyone else likes 'em, but I sure do.

I do! I have loved the three Disnortions that I've had (well, two, but one of those I had twice), and only don't have one because I stripped down to a B3. But I am STILL thinking about going back to the Snort AGAIN.

I have loved the three Disnortions that I've had (well, two, but one of those I had twice), and only don't have one because I stripped down to a B3. But I am STILL thinking about going back to the Snort AGAIN.

If you go back to the "Snort" (lol) spend an extra hundo and have their techs mod it for you with a clean blend knob and switch. HUGE difference for bass, and saves you from having to blend externally with their thoughtfully provided dry out.

Nah, I've never been in much need of dry blend (but I run much lower gain settings than you, too). I would, however, have them make the Octava a parallel circuit like the others, though. I like it by itself, but stacked it adds too much volume to be useful!
