If you could work with any drummer..

I'd choose Wil Drake

He is my best friend...we went to college together...have played in many bands together...done many sessions together...and we lock in and sit in the pocket better together than with anyone else. We are hooked up like ESP...reading each other's minds and are super familiar with each other's styles.

He is phenomenal and has worked with the likes of Matt Chamberlain. Matt played on a few songs of Moses Mayfield (my buddies old band signed with Epic and then Capitol) and everyone in the band agrees that Wil Drake was the better drummer for the job.

Anyways...he is my vote!

OK - I'll play...with with a little different twist...

This seems like it's a "Who Would You Like To Play With" just because these guys are awesome drummers. For my short list like that:

James Bradley, Jr. (Chuck Mangione's drummer in the early 80's)
Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band)

As for the "twist," I would like to play with ANY drummer, known or unknown, that we "lock" instantaneously. As we play more gigs, the groove gets so tight that the vocal/guitar/instrumental mix can build anything they want on that foundation.

While I've played with some really good drummers, there are four that are my favorites:

Lars Hartman - who's now living and working somewhere in North Carolina;
Billy Gendron - currently with the Dallas Marks Band in the Pittsburgh area;
Dave Taylor - (B.E. Taylor's brother);
Nate Vaigas - currently with Acoustic Jamage and Bad Strad in the Pittsburgh area.

I've played with others that are really good drummers, but it takes time sometimes to develop that bass drum/bass "lock" - so while there are good/great drummers out there, if I'm going to play/work with them, it becomes one of the greatest feelings in the world if you don't have to work on the "lock" factor, and you can just "play" - it's almost like you're reading each other's minds.

I'm in the odd position of loving Carter, but hating DMB. I'd love to work with Carter Beauford, but there'd be this elephant in the room regarding his choice of gig.

Other than that, I'm really big on old-school funky drummers: Clyde Stubblefield, Bernard Purdie, David Garibaldi, etc.

Also, I'd love to work with Harvey Mason because of his unique approach to funky drumming. The little fills, accents and mini-rolls he throws into the mix just drive me nuts.

for crazy progressive music that i would just have a lot of fun with, this guy...

andrea vadrucci. watch his other videos, i really like him as a drummer.

for an serious band i would have to go with richard mazzotta of mewithoutYou. ive seen them three times and everytime i cant help but to notice how solid his groove is and how you can feel his intesity when he gets into the music.
