If you had 2 grand....

Well...FIRSTLY I'd not get another bass, I'd finally get me a Nord Electro 3 or a Receptor or Hammond-Suzuki Xk3 so I could play keyboard again...but if it HAD to be a bass, hmm...I'd probably look around and get a new Rick 4001, G&L ASAT or (more likely) a COUPLE of nice Japanese Fenders (probably 2ndhand...saw a lovely '89 MIJ "funk machine" precision on Ebay the other day which would make a nice compliment to my '89 jazz...)

A custom Monson Oblivion bass, zebra wood top, DiMarzio pickups....maybe my favorite take on the Explorer.

I guess I'm just lucky. I have two mim P Basses that I love. Paid $200 for one and $225 for the other one. I'm going to be putting my hot rod up for sale soon and will probably get somewhere between 5 and 6 grand for it. Not gonna be buying another bass cause I like the ones I have. I hope you all get there someday.

Well I had 2 grand and I spent it on a used Modulus Q6. The why is a bit tricky especially since I already own a Modulus TBX 6 string. It started with Modulus going under and sort of disappearing and then sort of reappearing and then not quite coming back. So I'm thinking "Is this my last chance to buy a Modulus 6 string with normal string spacing?" The TBX is super tight string spacing. And then I see an Ad for a Q6 with Barts. Well, my TBX has Barts and some years ago I had a chance at a used Modulus Q6 with EMGs for only a little over a grand. I HATED the sound of those EMGs! So I turned it down. Some cat from NYC drove all night to come the next day and buy it! So I figured Modulus reanimation stories abounding, I still don't trust I'll ever be able to buy a Q6 later without selling the house, so there went the 2 grand. Worth every penny too! I mean like it's a MODULUS!

The only other time I had 2 grand and spent it on a bass was years ago when I bought my Alembic Epic 6 string fretless. Hey, I was in love so reason didn't matter.

Messing around with Fender's "design experience," I'd probably go with one of these:

$2k would get me either one, plus a case with maybe enough leftover to grab a couple packs of strings. I don't have very exotic tastes - I just think these look nice. I'm already quite familiar with their feel...
