given a choice of just 1 instrument to save, I'd grab my upright, which is 100+ years old and couldn't be replaced, no matter how great my insurance might be.

Whichever one is closest to the nearest safe exit, provided I can grab it on the way by. That fear is why I rarely have more than one in the house at any one time.
I'd pick my Warwick Corvette $$ 5 and then my Lakland 55-01 fretless.....I'd stay behind and burn!
Oh, one thing I forgot to mention in my other post. When they realized they couldn't save the house, the firemen said to come to the window, and he'd start tossing stuff out to me. I never thought to tell him to grab my guitars and hand them out. But I said to give me all of my school books.

Dang, this makes me want to make a massive firesafe, and put everything valuable to me in it. XD
But for real, I would grab my upright. Its much, much more sentimental/valuable to me than my crappy squire.

I would throw all my basses in their cases out the window! I live on the 5th floor but im sure more would survive the fall than the burn!
My cat. He's worth way more than my beat up Yamaha RBX374 or my crappy 3-string squier punk machine. 
My Precision bass. Hell, if it came down to my Precision or all my other instruments combined, I'd set the others all on fire myself. I couldn't live without that bass.

i'd save my b-15 before i'd save any of my basses, but i'd save my heavily modded 76 precision since it was my first good bass.
