IK TONEX pedal

Man, if I had a ToneX, I'd be all over this beta test! Have fun being part of the process.

Wishing Two Notes needed something similar. But then, they don't seem to release new bass cabs anymore, so maybe I missed my window of opportunity...

Man, for me its pretty perfect. I like having all of my effects in one place, my amp modeling another. It is just easier for my cave man brain to comprehend. I am usually a one and done amp guy, but its nice to have all of the options there. Song needs drive? Hot B15. Done.

The ToneX looks very cool. I have the Two Notes Torpedo, which just focuses on the cab sims; perfect for my live DI unit (and at-home practice/recording). Still got the pedalboard on the floor, but my DI sound is much more consistent now, regardless of amp or backline. The tech has gotten SO good these days, and the IRs are very high quality.

I REALLY think this is the takeaway here. AFFORDABLE tech has gotten so good.

Bergantino - Laptop and Tonex.

I absolutely fallen love with some of the captures on Tonenet. The Noble preamp is sooooooo good. Only scratches the surface so far, but even our guitarist went out and bought one after hearing / trying mine. This thing is a gamechanger.

I have a couple of questions. I'm looking at Kemper, QC, and this. Now from nearly every review vs Kemper and quad this easily profiles the best, It has a marginal interface, with QC, Kemper, Tonex in order. However i'm in need of a giant user library. Just curious how the user libraries are starting to stack up?

Where can i View the list of modeled Bass amps / Cabinets.

Also, How do you see this functioning in a live context?

Cheers,

Do you need a large bass specific library?

Yes. Its why i've been leaning Kemper. However Kemper does not capture even half as accurately as the Tonex and the Quad. Kemper just has a giant refined library. I am just curious what the state of user generated libraries are at for Bass on the Tone X. If its 80 with realistically 15 usable. ....

Amalgam Audio, who are doing the best guitar catures for Tonex (and also QC) is about to do a few bass rigs. A few of us here are beta testers for him. I’m not sure why you need so many marginally usable rigs over a few great ones, but if that’s what you need, Tonex isn’t there yet.

I've been testing one this week.

It would be nice to have a few more bass amps, for the most part there are like 300 variations of Ampeg amps but very little out of that. I don't think I've seen Marshall or Fender amps with bass cabinets for example. I guess more models will be uploaded, and it's true that the 16000 guitars tones are already excessive.

I'll be using it with the band to record some guitar parts (there is just one acoustic amp online, btw). The models sound great and it simplifies a lot the recording process. I'll probably also lay some bass parts with it.

It sounded very bland with the bass amp at rehearsal. More experimentation is needed but I didn't want to spend the evening changing presets or routings. I don't think it will replace pedals or amps for live shows.

Its not really designed to be ran thru a amp its suposed to replace one stacking this ontop of a already colored sound from an amp is bound to end up sounding muddy . Now if you have a clean and transparent power amp and a frfr type pa cab then it could work.

Yeah, but I play many different amps and places and that kind of setup is a hassle. A line/instrument level option would be useful for pedalboard integration.

(Also, a tuner!)

Since I'm very happy with my pedalboard setup I can just leave the Tonex for recording purposes, it maybe the novelty of it but it has been fun.

So I’ve run Tonex thru the paces and have some takeaways. It is pretty close to perfect. I run a tube compressor after the tonex and it seems to help it feel like pushing against a real tube amp. Profiles are stellar, even if I did change ir’s in a lot of them. Not having a tuner isn’t a huge issue TO ME. The biggest miss imo is not being able to use one output with the Ir bypassed. I haven’t tried running it thru my rig yet because the need hasn’t popped up, but I imagine it’s going to take some heavy eq for it to be usable. Luckily most gigs are silent stage aside from drums these days for me. Just wanted to point that miss out. If they would add that in a software revision, it’d be perfect.

It looks well thought and seems to sound great. It's not even expensive.
Now that's a big lot of options, probably too many for me. I'd get lost in choices.
This was actually a concern for me and why I avoided the Stomp. This works for me because you could just find one amp you like with varying gain or eq changes. It’s easy to be as simple as you want without feeling like you aren’t using most of the features

I agree with all this! The no-tuner issue is little more than a minor annoyance, but it seems mind boggling to me that some of these new units with IRs/cab sims don't allow you the opportunity to bypass them and run a line through to an amp. I briefly considered the Tonex before I got the Two Notes unit, but that was an absolute deal breaker! I'd say comfortably 90% of my gigs/rehearsals these days still require an amp, and there's almost no chance running an IR into a cabinet is going to sound good (barring some EXTREME eq somewhere along the way). With the Torpedo, I'm able to send the IR strictly to FOH, and keep my "live" rig completely intact. It means my on-stage amp is now little more than a personal monitor, but I can definitely live with that as a trade off for excellent, and consistent, FOH sound gig after gig.

If it were only for home recording purposes, I'd have definitely given the Tonex more consideration, but I needed it to double up for live stuff. Glad to hear it's as good of a unit as it's been made out to be, though! What amps and IRs are you finding work best for you thus far?

I’ve gone and gotten rid of my amps and gone full Tonex and have some QSC PA tops as monitors for when I need the amps. It’s a little heavier than my very light cabs, but I can now use one pedal board/amp/cab for my guitars and my basses. It’s not perfect in a loud rehearsal setting with poor pa support, but it’s pretty darn good. And sounds great through a pa.

FYI, Studio Rats just introduced their Bass Pack 1 for Tonex. They say "9 Tones Models for Bass Guitar. 5 captures are based on the stunning Darkglass Alpha Omega. This collection includes not only a super clean DI with no cab emulation, but you also get some rich drive tones captured with a selection of incredible bass cabs. The 4 patches from our vintage Fender Bassman also include a DI and a selection of bass cabs. This collection delivers studio ready bass tones for a variety of styles."

I haven't tried them yet, please let me know if you do! You can download and try them for free:
