I'm John Paul Jone's love child. It is a long thread, and I was too lazy to read all the replies, but...
OP, it is the Internet, and opinions here are usually less than worthless, including mine.
The guys that are the most arrogant and strident critics are usually 40-something weasels still living in their parent's basement, who have never even played live with another person, let alone in front of an audience, so let them rail against you; it is just hot air.
Do YOU like the music you make? If you do screw em, record it, post it and enjoy. If they don't like it, who cares, they aren't around much to post much, as that McDonald's schedule can be challenging.
Also, "wasps in a can" is EXACTLY the sound my son's (insert an adjective indicating superlative of annoying to describe style) Metal band would kill for.

I'm not actually that bothered about recording, I never intended to anyway, but I was adrenalized there for a while with new gear & recorded some stuff while drinking Guinness & then foolishly posted it. (audio only)
The fact that this joker likes to keep bringing it up a year later just reveals their motive & frankly it doesn't make that person seem very nice.
Imagine if I picked a person in the Electronics & Pickups forum who I felt had a lesser understanding of electronics than I do, and then I followed them around being contradictory
to them & bringing up their lack of knowledge in the area.
Well, that's basically what was happening with me, not once or twice, but at least three times.
Yeah, that's not personal at all!
I'll never record audio or video of myself playing ever again, and the encouragement here has helped me solidify that.
What are your reasons for being discouraged from recording?
There are a few people on this forum who have nothing better to do than try to make themselves feel better by putting others down. They're usually the ones who are the most anonymous, which says a lot to me. Keeping that in mind keeps it real for me and helps me to keep their comments in perspective.
I can't for the life of me understand why someone over the age of 15 would want to poke fun at or discourage anyone who was being creative and putting themselves out there. I applaud that, whether I like what they're doing or not - and I encourage it, with honest crituques on how I think they might better themselves. When it's requested.
Some people here are just plain mean spirited. Will suck much more ultimately for them than the people they attack. I'm absolutely certain they're not happy, content people. I don't know any happy, content people that do that. I think most people could say the same.

I am far from happy and content, but I don't take it out on other people. I beat myself up on the inside, then entertain myself with sarcastic comments and bad jokes on the internet.![]()
Did somebody say donuts???drool
