I'll never record again, ever.

I never record myself for the purpose of posting it here. It's just too easy to get caught up in the inevitable criticism. I was going to the other day just to prove I could slap my upright at a certain string height BUT then I remembered when KBD posted his soundcloud clips.

So...don't listen to the haters, life is to short. And thanks for reminding me to never post a soundclip

I like the looper pedal idea. I still have to figure out how to fully use my TimeFactor. If I have a quick idea I just hum it into the recorder on my phone. Haven't figured out a way to save more than one track, though, so I need to write it out before doing another.
There's a great Android multitracking app that I use on my tablet called Audio Evolution Mobile Studio. I only use it with the internal mic - so only acoustic recording - but it's a brilliant tool for trying different lines against one another or over a chord sequence, or for just getting an idea down quickly before it disappears.

All this talk about wasps in a can REALLY makes me want to listen to those clips. I'm a firm believer that there's a fitting context for any and all tones, so there's nothing that could be so devastatingly "bad" that it wouldn't fit anywhere (and if there were, that's quite the achievement).

For example, a lot of mexican psych rock bands of the 60s had guitar tones that sounded like a carrot meeting a rusty cheese grater - and it was the most badass thing they could hope for.

I think it would be best if I were naked & the camera just barely misses my "personal zone" :bassist:

We have a term for that in the anime community, it's called "ecchi"! It's almost nudity, which makes it a little more palatable for international crowds that might not approve of rampant nudity. I for support your endeavor into ecchi ;)

On a fully serious note though, you've got to understand that this place is full of people with very vocal opinions on nearly everything. We're also running that gamut of a super broad community, since the only common thread here is that we play bass. With that in mind, I think few people are going to be immune to some pointed criticism, and even then those people are probably being silently criticized anyhow.

I posted a thread about a band idea/listing that I made. I included a recording I made to give folks an idea of the sound I was going for. I was told that my indie music sounded like "...Lawrence Welk tunes". This was coming from an old guy who didn't understand the style of the genre, so you can't give too much credence to people who may be/are utterly clueless to what you are doing. If you play with nasty, gnarly bass then more power to you. If your bandmates and fans like it, that's who's important. Not some curmudgeon on a bass forum who doesn't even like your style. Keep doing your thing, man. Never forget, Jimi Hendrix opened for the Monkees and got booed off stage. I think we can all agree that he was a decently talented individual ;)

First of all, you were told not to talk about this!

Secondly, we tried that once but no one heard about it!

I think we should have one that is "known" but where you have to sign an agreement to enter that forum. Maybe we should call it the "sub-bassment" forum.

We had one in a fishing/boating site I belonged to. It was a hoot for years until nonfisherman found it and attacked the website for allowing such non-pc nonsense to go on. Man it was nasty delicious fun. We called it the "bilge" and I needed a shower after each visit. Grungy!
