I'm 42 years old.Do I have the right to like/want one of these axes??
Lately,I've been wanting an 80's/hair metal-type of bass.You know,a body-style that I could use for a murder weapon,wicked airbrush paint.You know,really L-O-U-D looking.Is this the age where a mid-life crisis starts for us guys???

Opinions??Am I just an old salt wanting to re-live my past?

I have an Explorer bass that I intentionally break out when doing a country or disco music set~ it's a kind of announcement that I'm a rocker that can't be tamed. Go for it dude~ get one of those Dean or BC Rich Spder things with a lot of points & sharp edges.

I'd say that you're a grown man making/spending your own money. Buy what you like and rock it! I always live by "F*ck'em if they can't tkae a joke." :D

You bet you have the right because you are of the time period where and when it happened. Im 41 myself so I really relate to this post. As far as my bassguitar tastes go they are rather old school/traditional. My current and now main bass is a Fender Highway One Precision bass and a Squire VM Jazz as a backup. That said I love the various Hamer basses that Rick Savage played during Def Leps haydays as well as some of the B.C Rich basses used by numerous bassists during that time period.

Yes, Yes, and Yes.

As it happens, you are the target market for these kind of basses. You're old enough to know what you want, so don't be ashamed of it.

If you're ok with the looks you will get if you use it in public outside of an "80's" band, then go for it!

If you want an 80's pointy bass ... get one.
As far as how you will look ... really who cares. If it has the tone to get the job done ... that's really all that matters ... isn't it?
